What are some colleges I should check out? I am interested in Game Design, Computer Animation, Graphics, and Computer Science.

I checked out Full Sail, and requested info to be mailed, but I can't think of any others.

Suggestions of similar colleges, or colleges with fields that I may be interested in would be helpful. Also, if you have gone to a college you recommend, please tell how you liked it and how good your couses were.

Thanks,
Kodiak

DigiPen in Redmond Washington is supposedly decent but reading from people actually working in the game industry that these types of schools frequently spit our graduates that are pretty worthless. Whether thats the schools fault or the students i don't know.

Excuse me, but my uncle had some new people that came into his work...they came from Full Sail...you know what he said? "These guys are amazing!"

Full sail is worth the money if you actually work at it. You get what you put into it, so obviously Czar's friends didn't do much.

Basically, Full Sail is the best for game design if you can dish out the money, dont mind the 24/7 class schedule, and actually put alot of work into it.

No matter what you do, start learning NOW.

You aren't going to impress anyone knowing only what they teach you in school. Use school to pick up a few new tricks.

The school does not matter that much (pick any good one) what really matters is the sort of demos and stuff you can produce in your own time, these can a)get you a job without a degree or b)get you a much better job when paired with a degree.

Also that is a pretty wide field you are looking at. You should try to focus more on one area of development.

lucky for you, you are choosing one of the few fields where the work you do is more important the pieces of paper hanging on the wall or a corporate ladder.

i know a good number of ppl that went to MIT and now work for blizzard or EA Games. I'm not sure how good MIT is for gaming design but a few people every year go that route.

Thanks guys, any more good schools? I want to get as much info packets from them as I can. Oh, and by the way, I live in North CA, but that doesn't really matter.

SCAD has a pretty decent Game Design department... It really focuses on the graphics side of it, they give you the engine and you build the world... meaning, you dont learn any C++ but only 3D animation for graphics engines. its pretty specialized. www.scad.edu

Check out the Rochester Institute of Technology. Have many friends majoring in New Media IT. RIT just introduced a computer gaming major last year I believe. Amazing 3D graphics and animation school.

Check out RIT. They've got a great CS program, multiple courses in Computer Animation/Graphics, and I think they were going to start up a Master's program in Game Design? I haven't heard much about it lately, but I thought it was in the pipe... a tiny bit of info here, you can probably email somebody from this page: http://social.it.rit.edu/projects/grad/index.php

EDIT: Whoa, didn't realize somebody beat me to it. If you're looking for a real person who might actually be responsive, email Prof. Bayliss from the CS dept (jdb at cs dot rit dot edu). She does a lot of stuff in that area and can either help you out, or put you in touch with someone who can.
