Can you take it again and do better? I took the SAT four times, although my first time turned out to be my best score.

Honestly, if you can't do better than 1750, you should be going to community college, at least to start with.

Does California still do affirmative action? Public schools in Texas no longer look at race when accepting applications.

If they do, they look.

 
How do these scores compare to the old school scoring system? Is it pretty much a straight proportion? So this would be like 1100 ish? Dude, getting into colleges really isn't as hard as you might think. You might not be getting into the college you want to, but honestly I think, based on the number of truly stupid people in my high school who got into college, you can always get into SOME college.

P.S. alot of people bomb these types of test I am not saying you are stupid.

If they do, they look.

They ask for the purpose of statistics, but your name and race is not put on the application that they review.

You can put any ethnicity on your application that you want except native american (where you have to prove it).

Put black no matter what color you are. Screw them at their own stupid game.

The current max is 2400. The max when you took it was 1600, or if you're an old timer 800.
 
Buy a practice test book and prep for it. If your writing skills are like your posts in this thread though, it may be more beneficial for you to begin at a community college where they can be improved to the point where you can compete academically at a 4 year university.

You could get into the CalState system, I bet, but I would doubt you would be able to get into the UC's with that. Take it again, get an SAT study book and stick with it. I did that and got a 1970 on it. It's not fantastic, but my goal was 2000, so considering that it was pretty good. I currently attend UC Davis, btw.

Also, be concerned with your GPA.
My GPA was around a 3.1 (just over a B average) and even with a 780math, 750 verbal score under the old SAT system in 2005 I could not get accepted to the LA or Berkeley UC campuses, even if their SAT averages were substancially lower than this. (I did not apply to any other UC schools)

keep in mind berkeley is mostly GPA based.
 
Dude, no need to rip on him for a not so good SAT score. Just because you happened to do better at a test doesn't make you superior.

Hey, I would just study up, possibly get in an SAT prep class, get tutors and what not if getting into a four year in really important to you. Keep in mind that there is nothing wrong with starting at the CC and working your way up.
 
I'd say that you can get into a four year university somewhere with just about any combination of grades, SAT scores, extracurriculars, and rec letters (to an extent, anyway). However, they might not necessarily be your top choices.

Edit: Forgot to add that if you have your heart set on a particular school, then applying there can't hurt. Add in a few safety schools as well (preferably a community/junior college or two), and if you don't make it into your #1 choice, then go the CC route for two years and transfer over.
