I brought very few consumables, since they just take up space in the car and can easily be purchased near the college.
Unless you happen to have enough room in the car.
And you'll note too, my list is almost entirely utilitarian. I never did anything in the way of decoration or "normal" recreation, so I brought things that'd be useful for maintenance or for fixing things. Interestingly enough, they did come in quite handy, especially my toolbox.
Laptop to class? Nobody does it. Everyone thinks it's a nice idea, but then you end up just playing games all class or IM'ing people. Just don't go to class instead. It's what I did.
Yoda: Control, control, you must have control.
I used my laptop for notes in two classes. Only program open: Word. That was it. For some classes, it's much easier, at least for me. I prefer typing to writing, and so I could take much more thorough notes with the laptop than with pencil and paper.
