this worked for me, although a lil too late,,, stay away from ur dorm when u have work to do, get to a library or something, less distractions....

i've also tried heading to the library for like 30-45 mins @ the end of the day (after all classes were over) n just look over notes from each class,,,,it helped a lot ... but keeping it going is another story

i dunno, if u see some benefit then i guess that may b some motivation????

theres nothing wrong with working at a grocery store

but when youre working there with no aspiration of moving up and you ask dumb questions then there is a problem 😀

you want motivation?

because I failed to get any meaningful internships, failed to join any progressive campus organizations, and failed to earn a 3.0 GPA in college, I also failed to get a good job. Now three years after graduation, I earn 1/4th what others in my profession earn, work for an unfunded startup with no perks, live at home with overbearing parents cuz I can't afford rent, and can't keep a girlfriend longer than 2 months (seeing my parents every time she came over got old.) All my friends have skipped town and moved on to better things in life.

there's your friggin' motivation.

Watch Orange County and pay special attention to Jack Black's character... That ought to be motivation enough... 😉

well, I embellished a bit to drive the point home and it's not all THAT bad, but my best option now is grad school. Had I only done a few things differently in college I'd be a LOT farther ahead...the problem is hindsight is always 20/20 but you can never look ahead and see how your actions influence your future.

how do you get/stay motivated in college? i'm having a tough time paying attention in class.. in fact i'm supposed to be in class now, i left at the break :Q.... mostly i need motivation to do the assigned readings. how do you do it?? every semester i tell myself 'i'm gonna read the book this time' and every time i dont read... any suggestions??

Bump for a Golden Grizzly. I always take my summer class over there and their rec center is about a billion times better than anything we have here in ann arbor.

The real world sucks straight out of college. Enjoy it while you can. You'll never be around so many people your age again.

ahh same here.. im in my 3rd year of college and still have no motivation at all.. got an internship last spring and its great there... i hate school so much, i rather be at work then be at school... going to work is like my free time or time to relax, when at school theres just so much crap to do... during the summer it was so much better, cuz when u work u dont have to take your work home with u but at school after spending all day at school u still gotta do hw, read, study 🙁 im really getting tired of school just want to hurry and get out

I used to get horrible grades in college during my 1st semester of sophomore year through first semester junior year (3 total semesters). My grades were pathetic. I hit an all time low GPA in my first semester Junior year and I was tired of it. I wanted to go to graduate school and needed to do well, so I studied a little and went to class sometimes (as opposed to never studying and literally not going to any classes for weeks at a time) and made Dean's List for the next two semesters to make my graduate school chances 100x better. If you don't want to go to graduate school, then still remember that a great GPA can help you get (not guaranteed obviously) a good first job. And you never know, maybe you'll want to go to some form of graduate school some day.

would u mind telling us your gpa during the bad years? maybe just give me some motivation that i can improve 😱 like first year and 2 of 3 quarters 2nd year i had horrible gpa, 2.5 i think, but then spring quarter last year i got a 3.0 my best quarter yet... but now this qtr im slacking again 🙁

I think I had all C's and one B in my first semester Junior year. I think my GPA went like this:

1st Semester Sophomore: 2.7
2nd Semester Sophomore: 2.6
1st Semester Junior Year: 2.2 - I didn't do ANYTHING
2nd Semester Junior Year: 3.5 (Dean's List was minimum 3.5)
1st Semester Senior Year: 3.7
2nd Semester Senior Year: 3.4 - Senioritis, already accepted to grad schools 😉

An upward trend in your GPA can help you out a lot. Don't screw yourself over if you want to go to any type of graduate school.

I don't know why I did horrible those three semesters. I guess I was a little depressed and hated the classes I was taking. When I hit that 2.2, it was like I was slapped in the face - I realized that if I didn't want to be a useless POS then I had to actually go to class every once in a while and do some work every now and then.

It's easy to get motivation in the real world. I've had people tell me these things:

You are qualified for the job and we'd love to have someone with your experience working for us, but since you don't have a degree we can't hire you.

Everyone here is in agreement that you deserve a raise, but the board won't give you one until you get a degree.

When you get your degree come back and talk to us.

That is why I am motivated to get through school. Inadvertantly I became self employeed as a result of crap like that, so I am by far better off and I don't need a degree at all, but I am getting one just to have as a safety net.

Electrical Engineering. I didn't apply to many places, mainly Vanderbilt University (where I was an undergrad at) and Boston University. From my experience, if you didn't have any real research experience, then you better have decent grades (or at least a good upward trend) or great recommendations. I didn't really find that the GREs meant much - it seemed more like a requirement instead of a bonus, ie you had to have a quantitative score of at least 720+ (preferably high 700s).

So if you did 'crappy' in the beginning, your life isn't over by any means.
