Well I am in a Physics for Engineering class right now and I am not enjoying it at all. It's weird because I always thought something related to math and science is what I would do best in. I am not doing very good in college so far, 2.0 gpa after 2 semesters. I know I will be able to get straight As in history classes, well I did in high school anyway. I'm reading a lot more than I ever have and I would love to work at a unversity for the rest of my life. Is a History major for me? This is tough. I always thought of myself working for intel or nintendo. Well maybe it just isn't for me? I'm just rambling but if you have any helpful advice, please share. Thanks.

Id say first worry about your gpa. If it gets any worse you will be on academic probation or worse. I always say do what you enjoy the most.
College is not high school. History, PoliSci, English and other liberal arts/humanities majors are not the cakewalk they're made out to be.
I'm expecting you to post here in three months with, "Help! I thought I could do it, but I'm failing history!"

you might want to consider dropping out of the university and going to a community college and going there first, you prolly are like me and went to a sucky highschool that did not help any when it came to preparing you for college
Taking 100-level English classes and majoring in History or English are two completely different things. Instead of spending your night slaving over a proof in Physics, you spend your nights in the library or in front of your computer working on the three 10-page papers you have due in the next two weeks.
You need to find out if your school has any career / self assessment classes. I took one and it was great, I found out a lot about myself. You take several different personality / self assessment tests and the results reveal what kind of person you are and what you enjoy most. We also did a few projects, like researching different fields and what not.
I was set on majoring in Computer Programming Technology... but that didn't quite work out. I wasn't the best in Math and Science, but I did well in just about everything else. Anyway, to make a long story short, I ended up majoring in Supervision Management, which was also part of the School of Technology. This allowed me to Minor in CPT.
I graduated a year and a half ago. It took me a year to find a job. I was focusing on a management position in manufacturing, but that didn't quite work out. However, It all worked out in the end though. Now, I'm the IT Director / Systems Administrator for a medium sized Law Firm. Even though I didn't get the CPT degree, my work experience qualified me for the position and I think that's what it's really all about.
If you want a job after you graduate, make sure you do whatever it takes to get a few internships in the field that you want to go into and it will all work out.
Oh yeah... History teachers / professors, really don't make that much money. I don't know how important that is to you though.
On a side note...
Building Construction Management is a really hot field right now. A few of my friends just graduated with a BCM degree and they both received several job offers. The only downside is that you move around a lot.

History degrees are a sure fire way to get into middle management at your local mall.
True that college liberal arts are not a cakewalk compared to high school, but they are definately a cakewalk compared to engineering.
I have taken a geography 400 level class in my freshman year just for fun, and I have taken microeconomics and macroeconomics, they were nothing compared to introductory engineering fundamental courses, consisted of differential equations, chemistry, physics, programming and static engineering.
Why do you think that most libral arts majors are not as competitive as engineering majors in their admissions to the department? because nobody wants to go there as job outlooks arent all that great.
I'm not. But I have taken both CompSci and history/polisci courses at my school, and have found that while the CompSci course had tons of hard programming and math, the polisci/history courses had tons of hard writing and analysis.
If you can do math for an engineering class, don't automatically think you can write for a history class. A major difference between math/engin and liberal arts/humanities is that in math classes, you can get the right answer and get 100% on a test. But in non-math classes, you can write a great essay and have amazing ideas, but if the prof doesn't agree/doesn't think you utilized your knowledge well enough, you won't do well.
Subjective grading is a bitch. 😛
i can definately support jumpr's position on this... History and Poly sci classes are a whole different ballgame in college than High School... Just as i'm sure college compsci classes are a much different ballgame from high school compsci. Regardless, poly sci and history are no easy ways out in college.

If you always thought you would end up working at Nintendo, then maybe you're in the wrong area.
I don't know if it's still true, but when I got my BS in CS, the first-year courses were deliberately harder than the upperlevel ones to help weed out the ones who weren't really committed to the work.
That was back in 1991.

but if he doesn't enjoy it, why bother? My Dad started out in the sciences, got low B's and C's, then he switched to education nad jumped to A's and ended with a doctorate, says he loved all his education classes but loethed all the science. I on the other hand seem to do all right through all the physics, CS, and math classes, but I hate Chemistry, biology, etc. I just don't enjoy that stuff, so why would I want to be a doctor if I don't enjoy it? It can't be for the money, if I hate my job, even if I get paid well, I won't enjoy life. I think others have suggested it, but take some classes, take some more history classes and see if you like them, I know how you feel, I'm a CS major with an English minor, so I stay up at night either coding labs or writing papers.
