Join the military. You can get just as good of a job without being in debt up to your ears afterwards.

Yeh, if Khaki is your colour. At my college 65% of the students were female, waking in the morning wasn't compulsory and partying was.

It was expensive, but i wouldnt trade it for anything

I thought the same way. But now, because of my military experience (which is considered the same as a degree by my company) I have a great job with a MAJOR telecommunications company working with computers making in a year about what a Porsche costs.

New Porsches. The Air Force IS the military. The Air Force could win any war single handed.

I was a "Space Systems Specialist" got out as E-4 getting about 1800/month bring home. Basically I worked with satellites.

I have more than tripled my income in under three years.

Joke all you want. I work with many X navy and army. They all complain how they used to have to do PT and their crappy living conditions. Then they call me country club boy. What you have to understand is that the Air Force has the best housing, grocery stores, facilities in general. It all pays the same so why not live like a regular person. My job was a JOB. I didn't deploy, I didn't do formations. I didn't do any of the military crap after basic except wear the uniform and salute.

i'd wear a uniform for ya, hzl...what do you want me to wear?

8ball, i wasn't disagreeing with you. i was just trying to make some funnies...guess i did not succeed. no, its the brainwashing i had to endure just going to naval sciece classes...we had to be Go Navy! you know what i'm talking about...pride and all that. i personally don't care what branch you are in. it makes no difference to me. sorry if you took it as an offense 8ball. i wasn't trying to.

None taken.

They all brainwash you at first. It wears off about a day after basic training. But it's not for everyone. Sometimes I wish I would've finished college. I did go for two years and I agree with damocles. Good times to be had by all. BUT, some places say the degree is required. I can do a better job than MANY of the graduates I work with. The degree doesn't make someone a better employee.

Airforce has a bit of class, i wouldnt be so keen on Navy or Army (but then thats just my thoughts). In terms of money i doubt i would have made any more if i went into our airforce (Kiwi), i think we still have Bi-Planes and the only Satellites we use are to get international Rugby/Cricket Coverage.

I briefly worked with a member of the RAN. Also worked with Canuks. Of all the senior enlisted and officers I worked with, Aussies and Canuks were the best overall. Most laid back. Let you call them by their first name (when not on duty). Most likely to buy you more than a few beers.

I believe college is good if one has vision and a goal for what they will use the education for specifically. I've have no college education, but economically, I feel I've done better than many of my peers who do have degrees.
I've also known people who have been going to college off and on for 12 years and still don't know what they want to be. My brother is one of them. My parents spent $40,000+ putting him thru and all he did is keep changing majors and after 3 1/2 years dropped out and has worked at various unskilled jobs over the years. He is 37 years old and has never had a job that paid much over minimum. He is actually very intelligent, just has no drive or social skills.

For me I believed college would have been a waste of time and money. I still feel the same way many years later. :)

College sure is over-rated, especially when it comes to learning all that garbage that you won't use in real life.

But the fact is most of this society requires a college diploma to get a decent job.
and from what i saw from the movies, the military looks pretty intimitating and abusive :D
So, (to avoid mental trauma), I'll just stick to the option of getting a college degree.

I left the military for college. Sure, you can join and see the world, as I did...but the places I visted in the Army were far from "club med." :) I feel like I wasted a great chunck of my life being idle in the military...I wish that on no one :)

8ball Its good you've done well, but for most people going to college instead of the military will probably be more likely to give them the job they want.

The Air Force could win any war single handed. NO major war has ever been won by an air-force alone. Without ground troops it cannot be done. You can rattle the side up, but if they are intent on fighting you better have some ground forces to occupy.
