I'm going to university in a few weeks. I've lived on my own for about 2 years and am now 20 years old, which makes me want to rule out dorms. People my age would've made their friends already and I don't need a parental figure living down the hall.

That leaves me with a few more choices. Fraternities are good places to make friends and I've lived in one for a summer, but the devotion is almost cult-like and kind of creeps me out. I do like the parties but at the same time don't like most of the girls the parties attract, mostly beer sluts.

My preferred option right now is to go in the newspaper and find a room for rent near campus. The people living there are likely students and it seems like a good way to make friends. I have no experience with this nor have I heard any stories, good or bad, about this option. I'm kind of just hoping for the best.

The last option and the one I want to avoid the most is a single apartment. I will meet nobody this way and live a miserable existence drowning my sorrows away night after night.

Am I missing something here? Share your experiences and if you have some advice I'd greatly appreciate it.

I say get a single apartment and join student organizations. The main way people meet people at college by being in student orgs.

I do plan on joining organizations as well but I should've mentioned that my parents will be giving me $700/month room and board so the roommate option makes sense financially also.. the job hunt will take a while and with the amount I'm getting I need the rent cost to be very low.

Also I've moved so much the past couple years that I'm so happy to leave all this crap with my ex-girlfriend and just bring my computer, stereo, tv, books, and some other assorted items. A single apartment means another huge amount of crap to move.
