On a 4.0 GPA scale if you have a 3.0-3.1 (in your soph year) is it possible to raise it to a 4.0 by senior year? (Since there are only 4 semesters left)

Not with your math skills.

You can get infinitely close but never reach it, over an infinite amount of time.

In 4 semesters the best you can get up to is a 3.55.

If
1) You've got one or two really low grades brining you down
2) Your college allows you to re-take courses and substitutes the most recent grade (not average!)
3) You have space in your schedule to take said classes
4) Those classes are offered when you can take them
5) You have the motivation/intelligence to score well in those classes this time around
You might be able to bring it up to maybe 3.6 or slightly better. Since it sounds like you're not Math/Science/Tech, I can't guess as to your department's policies.

Mathematically impossible unless you can earn grades higher than a 4.0.

the ONLY way to get a 4.0 is to get all A's. If you have already failed at that... then no, you can't get a 4.0

You can still get dean's list/ (summa)CumLaude(sp)

Shouldn't stop you from trying to get 4.0 the rest of the 4 semesters.

Employers/grad schools also like it when they see good progress in grades. So even if you started out with a 3.1, getting anything higher than that will definitely help your cause. You can put something on your resume like:

Overall - GPA: 3.4
Junior/Senior GPA - 3.7 or something

That looks really lame. IF you're going to put more than one GPA on your resume, it should be your major GPA. At least that has some relevance. Putting your junior/senior year GPA on there tells your employer you screwed around your first two years and didn't take college seriously. Putting your major GPA on there tells your employer that you're a lot better in the area that is most applicable to your job than your GPA indicates.

i'm currently carrying a 2.4 and i'm third year but i can reach up to 3.8-3.9 by sixth year.

not by semester, it's by quarter. 😀

lol, a 4.0 means u have a perfect score.... meaning u can never get less than 4 points (an A usually) in any class, no college I know off gives u more than 4.0 points per grade (A+ is also 4.0 AFAIK)... u've blown ur chance already 🙂

If you're 1/3 through with a 2.4..and manage to score 4.0 for the remaining 2/3..won't you still end up with a 3.46?

How far along you are year wise means nothing about what you can achieve GPA wise. What matters is how many credit hours you have completed so far, and how many more you will complete by the time you graduate.

You need to tell us how many credited hours you have, and how many more you will complete before you graduate for an accurate maximum GPA.

How many credit hours have you completed, and how many will you have when you're finished?

You're pretty optomistic if you're planning on straight As for the rest of your degree, and only have a 2.4 to show so far.. 😛
