Try thinking about the time period / context / culture, do some surfing to learn about it. Look at pictures of the art, etc. to get some visual background.

Then as you're reading, jot down notes with page numbers as you read of the parts that strike you as interesting.

Either that or waste weeks of your life, and take your C and like it :)

western civilization started from those 2 books, you have problems reading it and you found it boring? WTH! I read odyssey for my class, it was awesome. even better when the professor talked about some ideas from the book I never thought of.

Apparently it doesn't interest me as much as it does you. If I had your kind of enthusiasm about Western Civilization, maybe this wouldn't be a problem.
