So? And Alabama was playing without 2 of their 3 starting LBs and lost their team-leading tackler in the 2nd quarter, but despite that missed OT by only a couple inches. OSU is going to get killed by Oregon.

TCU was punished for playing a 2-11 Iowa State team at the end of their regular season when the other contenders were battling it out against real teams.

TCU didn't deserve to make the playoffs because of that. Hopefully that nonsense gets fixed next year and they have a Big 12 Championship game.

I'd have loved to see TCU in an 8 team playoff scheme, but they didn't fit in a 4 team playoff, no way.


We want to see the best teams at the end of the season go at it, we are closer this year than ever before. TCU could beat any team in college football, so could Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon. I think there are about 6 teams this year that can say that. I love the 4 we got.

TCU could realistically still lose. OSU rapes VT into oblivion.

TCU and Baylor are both legit. If any teams stock rose its probably Michigan State. Their only two losses this year are to the two teams in the title game. And Oregon beat them by 19. Its too bad TCU wasn't in the playoff. I don't think there would be any doubt about the national champ this year if they were in, but the ones that got in should be there. Hopefully this will make the move to a 8 team playoff happen sooner rather than later. Imagine TCU vs Oregon or Alabama.

Hopefully the committee decides to not release rankings throughout the season next season and just unveils the seeding at the end a la the NCAA basketball tourney. Should help avoid at least some controversy and would definitely avoid the TCU type controversy (a team being #3 one week, demolishing their foe the next and then dropping 3 spots in the rankings).

And while TCU was playing a 2-10 team at home, OSU was playing a ranked team on a neutral field, and still won by a larger margin.

One thing people keep forgetting is the CFP ranking IS NOT A LADDER, it's a RANKING. There is no "can't drop unless you lose" rule written anywhere.

The committee explained it like a 3a 3b 3c type delination rather than 3 4 and 5 and it rings true just how close TCU FSU Baylor and Ohio state were at the end of the season.

TCU didn't really drop that much because they were never that far ahead. If TCU plays in a Big 12 championship game at the end of the season and wins (like the other 4 playoff teams), then TCU is in over Ohio State.

Big 12 got a case of severe stupid in how they did things for their football. Baylor cheeses with a bye week before taking on Kansas State, TCU gets in against a no contest to finish their season... I'm not saying Baylor and TCU are not great teams, they are great teams and intense and fun programs to watch, but they took themselves out of it due to Big12 nonsense and scheduling. I just think the whole thing make sense and that the committee would have made a huge critical mistake to stick in a TCU who plays it's last game against Iowa State over other contenders battling it out in real matchups. I think the case for Baylor over Ohio State was a toss up, i'd have understood that either way it landed, but I think it was still about conferance championship games that gave Ohio State the edge. Hindsight the commitee made right choice, but at the time either choice was golden IMO. And I still think TCU beats either team 2x out of 3.


The committee told the Big 12 to get it's act together, and I agree with the statement sent.

Yea, exactly.

This is why i'm pretty content with the 4 team playoff while being a huge college football fan.

What I don't like is the early season stuff knocking a team out. Push comes to shove i'd take 8 team over 4 team. Too many good teams. I don't see how to fix the bowl season with more than 4 team playoff though. Gotta get the meat on 31st/1st. That's where the eyes and tradition are.

Yup. I read in an ESPN article (that I can't find now...) that Oregon averages 15 seconds from spot to snap. That is mind boggling. Most no huddle teams average from 20-25 seconds between spot and snap.

I can't understand why more teams (especially teams in the PAC-12) don't try this system.

It's a double-edged sword.

Unless you're very successful with it, you end up with 3 (or 4, 5, 6 etc.) & outs leaving your defense with the little-to-no rest. I don't care how good your defense is, if you leave them on the field too long they will fail.

And Oregon is not the only team to run an uptempo offense. They just happen to be exceptionally good at it, in part because of MM. He's a 4/5 yr senior and an exceptional athlete, even by NFL standards.

Also, Oregon benefits from having run this system continually for a number of years. Most schools don't have that kind of stability in either their offensive or defensive schemes.

Finally, a lot of high school athletes are attracted to teams that run a pro-style system because it increases their pro prospects. E.g., look at the scuttlebut regarding Braxton Miller. A lot of chatter out there about how he wants to transfer away from Ohio State to play for a pro set type team to improve his draft prospects.

FSU played against Clemson without their starter and won.

OSU has the worst loss of the one loss teams.

On thing I did notice in the Alabama - OSU game that was stupid was the rule not allowing the snap during substitutions. There was at least one instance where Alabama was waiting for the ref to allow them to snap, due to the OSU subbing, and the play clock was continuing to run. Alabama was forced to call a time out or take a delay of game penalty. That is just completely stupid. If anything, it should be delay of game on the defense for subbing late.

I think there might even be a new one this season that prevents the offense from snapping until 29 on the 40 second play-clock regardless of the situation

Winston looks good, when he is playing well. The problem is, he doesn't do that on a consistent enough basis. I have no doubts the guy could replace some NFL QBs and have some success; Geno Smith is a good example.

People think he is going to be a bust mostly due to the off field antics, and in this climate, they are right. Ray McDonald could have been the most talented player on SF, but two incidents of some kind of domestic disturbance is enough to cut the best player.

I think Mariota can make it in the NFL as well.

FSU in general wasn't as good this year. They lost quality NFL talent from last years team. For the most part he willed his team to wins. Geno Smith was never as good as Winston in college. There was also a lot of distractions, and once the team focused in they looked better. I think Winston will be fine in the NFL.

I don't know about Mariota. He just has to be drafted on a team that will tailor the offense to his strengths. I don't know how he'd do in a regular pro offense. Problem is he'll he drafted higher than he should, and that usually means a crappy team. I think at his best he will probably be Alex Smith.

I think Winston will be fine, so long as he is drafted by a team with strong leadership and few distractions: not the Redskins, for example.

Mariota, would do well as a backup to a good QB to learn. Like if GB drafted him, I think in a few years he would be phenomenal.
