12 is the most accepted standard for a good compromise between readability and length. Of course, you can usually go over or under 12 by .5 if you are having length issues, and it will go right under the prof's radar
It doesn't have to, but if you put yourself in the body of an adcom, length over a page and amount of attention given to it are inversely proportionate, and understandably so
12 point double spaced. Like Isekii says, switch to Courier New if you need to make it longer. But I would also go with 1 inch margins if you do. And it's all APA format.
I had to fit this one paper to 3 pages (it was too long) requirements were 12pt Times, doublespaced... so I changed the paragraph spacing to 1.85 and got half a point marked off cuz it wasn't double. :|
