College Degree question?

Besides trying to become a Police officer( Law enforcement) or a lawyer, what can one do with a Criminal Justice degree?

Also is Criminal Justice and Criminology the same degree?
 
I'm not trying to dis anyone doing Criminal Justice, but my experience:

Criminal Justice majors at my university are usually the slackers and burnouts that just want a piece of paper. It's not really useful unless you're going to do something with law enforcement or you could use it for pre-law.

I want law enforcement but having trouble getting in to be a police officer.
I could still use the degree to apply for goverment agencys though i believe.

edit: i just need get a degree but i don't what to do anymore as i major.

started with Computer Science but now want to change to Criminal Justice, other than that i don't what else.
 
i used to work as a private investigator. most of us had no background in the area, but one of my coworkers did in fact have a degree in criminal justice. i must say that she performed a lot better than most of the other workers with no background, although i don't know if that was exactly because of her degree.

On a more serious note, study something you find interesting. Doesn't matter what it is. I'm working in the financial services industry and don't have a finance degree (although most people I work with do).

Yes my writing skills suck I will admit that. I need to actually take some classes or books to improve that.

Interesting career that's my trouble at the moment, I started with computer science and I didn?t like the coding stuff to boring for me and now working at a computer place and you know what I?m already tired of dealing with computer problems. I always wanted to be in law enforcement also but having trouble getting in so I don't see the point of taking criminal justice if in the end I can't get a law enforcement career.

 
What subjects in school do you enjoy? For me I enjoyed history, so that is what I got my first degree in. The classes were always easy and enjoyable, so....

Gym ... well I have always been into computer stuff but trying to get computer jobs is hell now in days. back in high school I also took some criminal courses and I liked those and I always had the intention of looking for a government job either with computer or law enforcement but of course things not always go as you planned so I?m looking for other options now.

I have 80 college credits and need to finish but don't know what now.
All I know is that I don?t want a job where I sit in the same cubicle everyday. Plus good pay I hope 25g is not cutting it for me anymore.
 
It's not even that great for pre-law. Law school admissions are based upon your LSAT scores more than anything else, and that is based upon logical reasoning, something that lib arts degrees such as Criminal Justice don't help much with.

You can try getting some entry level gig in the FBI, although I think they prefer people with degrees in Law, Foreign Language, Accounting, and Forensics. But hey, ya never know. 🙂

😕 CJ as a lib art degree? At my college it was a BS.
 
If your just want a degree look into something like Liberal studies, or what ever its called at your school. Its a kind of make it up as you go degree.

On my liberal studies check sheet, I ended up courses in History, PolSci, Soc, Econ, Library Science, Education, Geography, there might be more. I got to pick and choose what I wanted though. BTW I am a Social Worker, it doesn't pay much but can be a stepping stone to Law enforcement. One of the workers in our office does have a CJ Degree, she also worked in the mental health field.
