I just got my decision from Stanford - wait listed. Better than rejected I guess, but from what I've read and thought about, I think Cornell would be better for me anyway. The distance to Stanford would make it very difficult, and it's not the first time I've heard that Stanford engineering professors don't have much time for their undergrad students. Hopefully my financial aid package from Cornell will be reasonable. CMU only gave me $8k in grants and another $8k in loans. That still leaves $32k + interest to pay per year, ugh

wow how expensive is that school? 48k/year? If you didn't say it was undergrad, I would've thought it was a grad/professional school.

It's 40k. They gave me 8k in grants knocking it down to $32k. The $8k in loans I still have to pay back.

Cornell = fake ivy league, gets laffed at.

CMU = legit, much respect for engineering, but as my friend who goes to CMU says, PITTSBURGH SUCKS MY BALLS.
you sir, are a fool and know nothing about ivy leagues. dartmouth is the ivy that gets laughed at, and even then it's in good clean fun.

and to those naysayers who claim that going to a state school is just as good as going to an ivy, i'd like you to consider those top investment banks and elite consulting firms that don't dedicate any time or effort to recruit from schools other than top universities. sure, for most individuals the decision between going to a state school and a top 10 doesn't matter too much, but top universities offer opportunities only available to a select few institutions. argue all you want, but there's a reason why certain schools have sustained top rankings for hundreds of years, have been able to charge an arm an a leg for hundreds of years, and still recruit top talent and get them to pay an arm and a leg for their education.

I'm a fool? I know nothing of Ivy leagues? OK.

I never said State > Ivy. But Cornell along with Dartmouth are Ivys that get laffed at, especially in the financial industry.

Out of curiosity, where did you go to school at and what job do you have?

He's doing engineernig anyways so he wouldn't be looking for a job in finance...

I would pick stanford because if you wanna be an engineer, you got silicon valley right next door for all those internships.

As a working EE, I would say Stanford. Make sure you take a class with Horowitz. He came up with Rambus. Although I have worked with many that went to Cornell or CMU and those 2 other choices certainly aren't bad.

don't go to CMU. PITTSBURGH SUCKS. PERIOD.

You're talking out the side of your ass my friend.

Pitt ain't like the "steel town" days. Pitt is very green. VERY NICE. The area surrounding CMU and Pitt. U is really nice.

I think Pittsburgh is the cleanest nicest looking city in Pennsylvania. The only city nicer I've been to is Portland, Oregon.

It depends on what field you're in. If you're doing engineering or computer science, Cornell is second only to Princeton in the Ivy League.
