Just looking over some of the peoples lists..

Don't forget to bring a fan or some sort.. you don't want your room to always be stuffy.

leave the A/C on 24/7 🙂

I havent bought a laptop yet, but I was thinking about it. I remember in another thread, some people were discouraged from buying one cuz they only take it around for the first 3 months or so, then it sits on your desk.

So, should I buy one or not?

Hrmm what else to add...

An iron and a mini or full ironing rack if you have the room.
Spray Stain remover. Detergent doesnt always get things out
Hangers.
Quarters for the laundry machines.
First Aid Kit
Lotion for dry skin depending on where you go to college.
A Suit or something formal- there are fall/winter balls to go to
Flashlight and extra batteries, the power does go off.
If you dont have a microwave/mini fridge, definitely get one of those pots that boil water.
Softener sheets for laundry.
Clothes that are easy-care, dont wrinkle easily.

Thats it for now...
There was a similar thread way back.

dont get an overly big TV. i had a suite so we had a sweet 35 inch TV BUT if you are in a dorm, get a 19 or 21 inch TV. also, get an LCD, trust me on this one, i have a 22' CRT and it's a pain in the @ss carrying that thing. dont forget the alarm clock, it's the most important thing

Everyone pretty has it summed one, one thing they forgot is Duct tape. Duct tape fixes everything.

Duct tape is a given. Also a good multitool or screwdriver set to fix the busted desks/beds you get stock in a dorm room. And for obtaining decorations, like Stop and No Parking signs. 😉

so many posts, and nobody has mentioned febreze yet?!?!

Like others mentioned, bring lots of cables, enough power strips, a casserole dish or something else versatile to cook with, ***TIVO***, and a good fan.

lol Good suggestion. I had to get some febreze but only for my hockey equipment. Nothing else in my room stunk... 😀

It all depends on where you are going.

First off, call your roommate. This way you can split stuff up. Don?t have a roommate? Fine.

Carpet. Bring carpet. Sure you have to vacuum, but people have vacuum cleaners, so borrow from people on your floor. You will soon recognize that borrowing from people is easier that bringing your own stuff.

Posters are cool, as long as you don?t have that many, and aren?t too attached to them. Remember that shenanigans go down in a dorm room. Don?t be attached to ANYTHING (electronics are a different matter)

A 19 inch TV will be just fine. Sure there are people with 27? TV?s in there room. Let them worry about moving the damn thing. Go to their room and watch TV. Dorm rooms are small enough to be able to live with a 19? TV. (note the thread about moving the 36? Wega. Trust me; you don?t want this to be you)

Bring lots of clothes, especially if you don?t like laundry. This just means you get to wait longer in between loads. Lots of socks and underwear is a plus.

If you have A/C, then I wouldn?t worry about a fan.

And honestly, I wouldnt worry about a cutting edge computer. Just something that fits your needs (and if this IS a cutting edge computer, then fine). I?m a ?computer nerd? and still have a p3 500 MHz. It?s cause I spend my money on other things, like my girlfriend. Besides, there are plenty of computer labs to use if needed.

I would bring as little as possible, because then you don?t have to move a lot of stuff. It?s not like you are going to live there forever. If you forget something you would like to have, then either buy it or bring it from your house. It isn?t really that big a deal.

You will need basic amenities. Toothbrush, soap, and the like. Bring shower sandals if you share a bathroom. Lots of towels won?t hurt either. Basically, if you NEED it (note the NEED it part) in your daily routine, then bring it. Trust me, you don?t NEED most of the stuff you think you do. Don?t believe me? Wait till your first year of college is over.

Remember, space is limited, so be careful of what you bring. Trust me. I brought everything I thought I needed and ended up sending most of it back with my father.

Booze. Lots and lots of booze.

And condoms.

True. Don't trust those free condoms the RA or health nurse gives ya. Probably six months past expiry. :Q

I never gave condoms to my residents. 😕

Although I did drink with them once or twice.

Nail clipper
cat5 cable
detergent
bags

don't get a laptop until you move out of the dorms because I've had a few friends who had their stuff stolen out of their room.

Digital camera. Dorms girls wear next to nothing while walking around... once I saw this girl wearing her underwear without shorts/pants.. and she had a shirt just bearly covering her ass... nice.
