i applied mainly to UC's (the california ones) since i knew that's pretty much where i wanted to be.
Since you didn't post your academic stats , what colleges you've applied/are going to apply to and such, and since i really don't know you at all, i have a better chance at guessing what you're wearing than you're odds of success in your mentioned fields
I heard a military background is always a plus when applying for gov't jobs.
my friends brother who wanted to be a codebreaker for the NSA (he's a genius at math) didn't get the job. Not lack of qualifications (as a cal-tech graduates degree is a nice $$$ apparently) but something in his background/personality didn't rub the nsa the right way. He's squeeky-clean, and it was rather surprising to hear that he didn't make it through the background screening. The interviewed his family and friends too apparently, and even took a picture of his room at school and at home. pretty intense imo.
