College Acceptance:

I applied for Freshman Undecided at their main college (I forget the name). I am thinking about chemistry though....

ACT Score: 31 (it was 98 percentile) out of 36
SAT Score: 2010 (out of 2400)
GPA: 98.5

I'm not sure, but I don't want to commit to something that I'm not completely sure about. Though on one app, I had to declare a major for the school of arts/sciences (Georgetown).

where else did you apply?

I know how you feel though, I really wanted to go to UCSD or Umich and I got rejected at UCSD and waitlisted at mich. Don't worry too much about it, I'm at UC Davis right now and I'm having a great time. My professors are excellent and I'm very satisfied with the atmosphere here. As long as you land a top 50 US News college you have nothing to worry about.

My HS never used letter grades or GPAs, just a 0-100. Multiples of 5 and then multiples of ones once you cross the 90 threshold.

The GPA is weighted from all the honors and AP classes I've taken.

98.5% of 4.0 = 3.94 in our GPA terms.

OP what was it un-weighted?

public or private high school??

Public

there ya go...a 98.5 at a public school that weights grades doesn't stand up very well at Northwestern level college

I don't know about that, my older brother had a 98 gpa and he was accepted into Northwestern (but he didn't go). Also, my hs is one of the best public schools in the area.

I never got it as unweighted.

guesstimate

collages usually recalculate your gpa according to their scale anyway. so the GPA from your HS doesn't matter, just the letter grades.

Keep in mind northwestern is #12 in the nation, so don't take it too hard on yourself. You have to remember how many close to perfect SAT scores and 4.0's you were up against. I'd say you should make NYU, Boston U, SUNY, and Georgetown given that your extra cirriculars and essays were pretty good. I don't really understand the weighting of your gpa though, were you close to a 4.0 w/out weights? Or did you get a lot of weights to push you up?

well, " one of the best" public high schools doesn't compare too well to competetive private schools

guesstimate

Probably somewhere in the low to mid 90s. All or most of my classes that I've taken were honors or AP classes (when I could take them instead of a normal class) so most of my grades (mostly As and A+) were pushed higher....
