I have to admit... when I was younger, I thought that this sounded like the stupidest idea ever... but as i get older, im finding ive got some attachment to some old videocards.

I found my old S3 Virge, my old Herc Tseng Labs card, my old Integraph Voodoo Rush card... and all of em i cant even think of getting rid of. I even added to their ranks and picked up a Orchid Voodoo 1 card for $2. Is anybody else starting to feel this strange Computer nostalgia?

Oh, and if you are... remember the X-24 Obsidian2? Sumpin' tells me thats gonna be the crown jewel of any video card collecting ;)

I'm keeping my old components for possible reuse in future systems. I've still got my old 8Mb voodoo2 that I have no idea what to do with...

The only two things I've gotten rid of were a 200 MHz Dell computer and a Voodoo 2 12MB card. I do keep 'retired' parts that got replaced by something newer, and use those to build and 2nd computer, now I have enough to build a 3rd computer minus CPU which should be coming later this week :)

But that's about the only reason I keep old parts until I have something to replace the 'retired' ones.

Kinda sounds like denial ;)

I did the back up comp thing for a while, until now that i have 3 "back ups" sitting in the closet with no use :D

Ive only gotten rid of 2 computers... my old 486 SX2, and a Pentium 166MMX... and now i would love to have em both back. I would actually use the 486 tho, cause i cant get Tie Fighter (the original, on floppy!) to work in these new fangdangled OS's. :(

Would be awesome to have an old 486 w/ Win3.1 to play some ancient games on.... Anybody up for some Indy Jones and the Fate of Atlantis?

Actually, Indy Jones and Fate of Atlantis runs quite well under ME, altho I havent tested it under XP yet. Now that u mention it, I plan to do so tonight..... its and old favorite. I also save alot of old computer parts, but just as "backups" altho some of them are probably not going to be used, I still just keep them. BTW, as far as Fate of Atlantis, I use the CD with speech, not just text speech. Although it took me along time to figure out where to get that "Rib Cage" in the outer ring of Atlantis ;) Fond memories....

lol this brings back a funny and disappointing memory for me. My first computer was a Compaq Presario P75 with CD-ROM, and one cday all of a sudden, all my hard drives and cd-roms disappeared and I declared (this was before I was into hardware) that the IDE Controller had finally went (this PC was 5-6 years old), and I basically just ripped the system apart when I probably could've salvaged it if I just threw a PCI IDE Card:|. So anyway, that's the only PC with my very limited experience (I've only had 5 PC's total). I'm using 2 right now, the other 2 I took apart and I kept some of the parts from the other 2, I sold other parts, and some were dead, those I threw out.

I do keep parts around (old stuff just because I don't have anything else), but I personally don't like to keep newer stuff. I'd rather sell it off.

Old computers and parts are fun. Now thanks to you I'm going to have to spend this evening rummaging through my parts bin finding enough pieces to put together a P-233 I've had laying around. I figure put that 233 with the 2x12MB Voodoo2 SLI setup I have laying around and maybe have some old GLQuake or Quake II fun.

I usually keep the "old" stuff and the newest stuff, and sell the in-between things. The old stuff is usually not worth selling, and the new stuff is still useful. So my PC collection looks like this:

Gathering dust:
Intel 386sx-16
Intel 486-50
AMD 486-100
Intel P1-233

Still being used:
IBM ThinkPad P1-166 (my trusty old laptop)
Dual Celeron 366's @ 550 (my server)
Intel P3-750 (linux plaything)
AMD Athlon 1.4 (wife's PC)
AMD AthlonXP 2000+ (my PC)

Apple PowerBook Duo 280c (680LC40, 33MHz)
Apple Performa 6115 (PPC 601, 60MHz)
Apple Performa 6116 (G3 upgraded, 240MHz)

Plus all the monitors, keyboards, mice, modems, printers, and other crap you can imagine. One whole room of my house is filled to the brim with this junk. Yet I really don't want to get rid of any of it.

However I did recently sell my AMD K62-550, Celeron 300a@450, and Cyrix MII 266 rigs, since I had no use for them anymore and they were still worth a few bucks.
