Ok, I know they're healthy and all, but they taste so bad. I didn't know what they were when I got them, but after one taste, I almost lost my appetite. It tastes (and looks) like seaweed.

The collard greens you find at regular grocery stores are often too mature--tough and fibrous. That's why they have to be cooked Southern style.
Go to an Asian grocer and buy the good stuff--young and tender greens.

I was 16 before I realized I grew op on Soul Food. My mom is a hillbilly and cooked up all that good stuff when I was growing up, if it warn't fried in bacon grease, we didn't et it.
