ColdFusion 5 Linux Slackware 8.1 MySQL question

Im running Slackware Linux 8.1 and ColdFusion Server 5 with MySQL and apache and I managed to install the latter. The problem is getting them to interact. I managed so far to get Apache running and to log in to the admin environment under CF. The problem is that I can't get CF to connect to MySQL. Are there any potential pitfalls as in special ports or certain security settings under MySQL that need to be set?
