Coldest Socket A cooler

I've got an Athlon XP 3200+ that's running pretty hot (~60C when inside the desk cubee). It's currently running a Zalman CNPS7000A heatsink, it's nice and quiet but not really doing a good job of cooling.

What would be a good socket A cooler to get that will cool better? Sound isn't really an issue, obviously I don't want it to sound like an airplane but finding something that's nicely silent isn't really an issue.
 
Yep, the Swiftech is as good as it gets. Throw a high-output Delta or Vantec fan on there and you should see your temps plummet.

What's wrong with 60C? Unless it's crashing, who cares.
 
I know this kinda sounds bizarre but maybe consider getting one of those fan grills that is just like wire right in front of your case fans. Only thing, you need to cut your case to do that.

That's what I plan to do. I want to cut two holes in my case and add an another case fan. That way, there will be a tremendous amount of air coming out the back. 🙂
 
my Thermaltake Beetle owns, I get constant 35c temps, in a HOT room in Southern Cali, with no AC, or fan. I don't think I could hit any lower without water.

 
My Thermalright SI-97 keeps my AXP 3200+ between 30C-40C at idle and around 50C at load in my case with basically no airflow. Temps drop by about 5C-10C if I take the side panel off. The fan noise is reasonable with the Panaflo I'm using. I would definitely reccomend it, particularly since you can now get the SI-97A, which can be used on other processors in the future.

How do think it would stack up against the newer Thermalright SLK 947U, a big hunk of copper with a Vantec Tornado?

FYI, I believe the Thermalright SLK 947U has been discontinued. Definitely not 'newer' anymore.
 
It may not be the coldest but my overclocked barton is cooled by an ALX-800 at a constant 38C idle.Last time i checked it can be bought for as little as $15 but it is also discontinued.

I've got two of the Swiftech 603's on my Xeon's. Don't have any complaints here.

Yeah, I know it's discontinued. But is newer than the other one mentioned 😉 . See date of review linked. The reason I thought it was important to put "newer" in there was because the review said the Swiftech was the best, well maybe at that time. But they couldn't have compared it to Thermalright cuz it was "newer" and not out at that time.

Although they are discontinued they can still be bought, especially in FS/FT.
