Cold weather transmission issues

The transmission will warm up faster if you leave the clutch engaged and have the transmission in neutral. Even in neutral the input shaft is spinning as long as the clutch is engaged and that will warm up the fluid more than just cycling through the gears.

no, thats not what he said. Put it in neutral and let the clutch out. The input shaft is not spinning with the clutch depressed, but once you let it out, it makes the physical connection between the engine and transmission via the clutch disc and pressure plate and turns the shaft in the transmission.
 
My car is in N when I start it, all you are saying is press down on the clutch, and let off, and the connection is made?

yep. press down on the clutch to start the car, then slowly let off its in neutral. If its really cold out, sometimes the car will feel like it wants to move a bit as all that cold fluid is being moved around.

It's never felt like it wanted to move...technically i've done this every time I start the car...I would assume anyone with a stick does to, because you've got to depress the clutch when starting it.
 
So he's saying do the only thing you can do if you own a MT and want to go back in the house with the engine running, which is clutch pedal out and car in neutral so the clutch plate is engaged, but since car is in N it's not going anywhere.

20 F seems not that cold for weird issues but it could be normal. Seems by this thread it is. My 2000 maxima does quite well in temps like that (manual also). I have no idea if the Redline transmission fluid has anything to do with that or not.
 
i had this issue last winter...switched to amsoil mtf and no problems now.

although my car has a document 3rd gear issue which i need to get repaired before my warranty ends
