My heat isn't working :( I picked the lock into the heating room to check the water heater pilot and all is well...I think I might have figured out my problem , but need a confirmation before I 'throw the switch' :)

There are two lines going from the water heater to the coil/blower unit thingy that pumps my heat...a cold (return) and a hot (circulate)...both lines have a large shut-off valve about 6" from where the lines connect to the water heater. The cold valve is open, but the hot is closed for some reason...I do, however, have really hot water all through the house, but again, no heat whatsoever...not much documentation on the heater, so I am not sure, but I think the hot line should be open, too...to send hot water from the water heater to the coils in the blower to spit out some heat throughout the house...

I've been downtown drinking tonight, so a bit scared to just open that bad-boy wide open...keep picturing the water heater blowing up from some kind of back pressure :) Anyway, you guys have any input on this one? Shouldn't both valves be open?

Just plug in a space heater... that's what I do. My house has no heat (except a single wall thing in the bathroom), but I'm perfectly comfortable here at the computer and it's 24 F outside.

Heh...no politics...just some good natured ribbing. ;)

Anyhow, I would open that up and see if you get heat. I doubt you will hurt anything by opening it...just keep an eye on it. Is it possible someone shut off the heat during the warmer months?

the "furnace" switch is on and everything is running, just no heat...always thought the "furnace" was some gas fire thing that burned and the blowers blow the heat throughout the house...got to be more to it than just some hot water pipe that heats the house, no? :)

I'm smoking a smoke, then throwing the damn switch, I think :)
