It works fine on certain applications, worthless on others. It's basically some sort of super-conductive material that they put two pieces off close together to form the tip, and when you short them against each other by touching them to metal, they heat up, and when you pull it away they lose their connection and cool off. I've tested it out, and it works alright, and I put a temperature probe to the tip and it did hit close to 800F in under a few seconds, but if the connection you're soldering isn't solid it flickers on and off and doesn't heat up all the way.
