I'd be more inclined to believe it, if the news release is coming from DoD

Whatever happened to that Irish company that had a perpetual energy machine? Or the Phantom? Went to the same place this is going to go, nowhere.

I tend to believe SPAWAR over the others. All they've said is something cause neutrino emission, they don't know what yet. Something is going on, and there is no harm in investigating it.

A friend of my dad's from college is researching this stuff. He's kind of a nut, but he's an MD. He's been able to produce power from reactions (he's gotten several watts), but the process requires precious metals and isn't yielding big returns yet. There could be something to this, but a major breakthrough is needed.

I didn't know they taught that stuff in Medical School.

That's where his story lost all credibility too.

You realize that SPAWAR is part of the DoD right?

He went to MIT for undergrad. I can't remember what he got his degree in, though.

Right, that's why I said I'd be more inclined to believe it this time around....

Neutrons. Not neutrinos. VERY different particles :)

I just read the articles. There's very little detail. Also, if their main evidence is that of some neutrons flying around, well cosmic rays pass through everything all the time. There is a decent chance that a high energy cosmic ray hit any of the nuclei in their tank and caused some kind of nuclear reaction.

I built a cloud chamber a few years ago, and you can really see a lot of cosmic rays all over the place.
