Haven't posted my own Hot Deal for a while, so here goes:

QPS 32X/12X/10X REWRITABLE EIDE DR W/ SOFTWARE CABLES. MEDIA
Our Price: $256.95

http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10255227&loc=101

256.95 - 30 coupon + 7.36 shipping +19.16 tax = 253.47

Thats a pretty good price for this drive. Then I decided to read up on the QPS site, and found the kicker - a $50 rebate! Taking the price down to $203.47 (depending on your tax).
http://www.qps-inc.com/rebates/50off_12x10x32x.pdf

Since the specs seem to match the Plextor (speeds + BurnProof), I am assuming this is a Plextor. I'm not big in the CDR scene, so I couldn't research to know if this is true. Can someone else confirm this? What website did you use?

If this is a Plextor, then it would seem to be a STEAL for this price. The Buy.com title says that it is EIDE, but the product description everywhere else says FireWire 1394 which I assume is accurate. Perhaps it can be taken out of the casing and hooked to an EIDE interface? If that is true, then you have an internal drive convertable to external (even says it comes with a carrying case).

Hope this is really a hot deal!

EDIT: Updated thread title, read below

Plextor DOES NOT SELL UNDER OTHER NAMES ANYMORE.

The last drive that was ever sold under another name was the Imation 8/20.

Yes, but Plextor doesn't make the BURN-Proof system, Sanyo does. Of course, I know nothing else about QPS. But if the warranty is the same, you might want to go their way.

Creative has a 12/10/32 that is the same drive as the Plextor. Not many manufactures make drives that support burn-proof. I only know Sanyo drives and the Plextor right now.

QPS/QUE! rebate is for the firewire mac version (QPCDRW121032FEM).

looks like a description error on buy.com's part.. at the top it says "EIDE", in the middle it says "internal", and the SKU is for the internal 121032 and not the external firewire version.

QPS does sell a 12-10-32 internal for the same price at onvia. i couldnt find it on the QPS website, but onvia sells it. same MFG SKU# QPCDRW121032I.

i was hoping it was hot deal too... but i dont think so. if anybody goes for it, let us know if you get lucky.

Other companies do distribure Plextor drives. Imation is the only ones i've seen using plextor's SCSI variants, but I've seen about 2-3 using their IDE burners. Off the top of my head, I believe it was Cendyne's 12x burners that are pioneers. I've known of 3 people who purchased this burner, and the drive's sticker says pioneer on them

BTW, burn-proof stands for Buffer Under-RuN Proof. As i understand it, it basically pauses the burning once the buffer drains out.

the new TDK 12x10x32 drive is also supposed to be the plextor drives, just like the older 8x4x32 drives

Well, thanks for the feedback people, but it looks like this is probably not going to be a hot deal. Unfortunately, I ordered one before posting. If for some magical reason they send me an external I can use the rebate on, I will follow-up here.

If this really is the internal version QPS, then I would rather pay the $2 extra and get the plextor name drive:
