Cold boot problems

Hello all,
My current rig is the following:
  • Case: Antec Solo
    MBoard: Abit IP35-E
    CPU: E6750 OC'd to 3.20 GHz
    Memory: 2GB Crucial Ballistix
    HDrive: Maxtor DiamondMax 21 500GB
Video: PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 3850 256MB

I read that the IP35-E never post from a cold boot the first time. Instead they boot for about 5 seconds then the machine restarts to boot normally.

Recently I have a new problem. Once it has gotten to the boot normal, the machine never posts. I then have to reset the machine or do a hard shutdown then power it back up where it does the boot/restart/normal boot and then it will post.

It is doing this everytime now and I am not sure what the problem could be.

What PSU do you have?

Take the system back to stock speeds and see if you still have the same problem. If the motherboard is having cold boot issues an OC can be a contributing factor. BTW that isn't normal for any motherboard. It should start right up the first time you push the button.

PS: Antec EW-500

I had read that the double boot this is a common issue with the board here. I also clocked the cpu back down to specs.

Still getting the double boot issue though.

I am not sure what to test actually. The only change I have done so far is reset the clock settings to optimized defaults.

no cpu overclocking during test to get system stable.

look at your memory specs, set the voltage and timing to those specs in bios and run memtest86+ for hours, up to 12, any errors?

for the cpu run heavy load or prime95 and watch for over heat, same as above, hours up to 12.

did the test pass ?

Its never a good thing nor is it normal for a motherboard to cycle like that when booting. If it doesn't power up the first time there is a problem. If it is a common thing with the motherboard then you need to get a differnt motherboard.

Yeah I tried to flash the bios version to possibly fix the problem and it is officially a useless piece of garbage.

So now I need a new motherboard that will do as good a job as this one did.

The one I had is ABIT IP35-E

This one looked like a good replacement: ECS GF7100PVT-M

Are there any other MB's that would be a cost effective replacement for the ABIT IP35-E that you guys have hadd good results with?

UPDATE:
So I ordered a new ASUS P5K DELUXE/WIFI-AP. I am hoping I will have better luck with it. Now I am faced with the bummer that I can't easily swap a motherboard without having to re-install everything including the OS. I was not about to buy an identical motherboard considering the problems I have had with this one.
