I also think it's a good idea, but only for those who do have an unmanageable amount of cards. I try to carry as little as possible in my wallet, now I'm at roughly 6 cards or so (2 debit/credit cards, drivers license, transit pass, library card etc). I don't think I could change this to just two cards (Coin and id) because many of the cards use NFC or barcode over here in Finland and might not work on Coin because of that.

I don't think the big issue is security, it's mostly the price and having an actually need to consolidate cards.

I currently have 5 credit cards so I can max out cashback on various categories purchases. I got ~$1000 cashback last year as a result.

a few other membership cards + drivers license puts my wallet on the verge of being uncomfortably thick. Coin + one backup card will slim that down nicely.

I carry my CSP, debit card, and AMEX card, and one more card depending on the cashback categories.

This might help me dial down the number of cards, but more importantly in my thin wallet I'd like a digital copy of my AAA card, my health insurance card, and my HSA card.

your health insurance card has a mag strip?

Sorry I wasn't completely clear. I don't think mine does, but my point was while Coin may be great, I think my bigger focus is to dial down on those extra cards by going digital. The AAA guy was ok with me showing a photo of the card, but there seems to be no solid digital wallet app out there. Coin doesn't help me address these concerns.

Edit: To add that I'm still paranoid about Coin being a battery operated device failing. I feel like it would be wise to still carry 1-2 extra cards just *in case*. Probably my CSP + Debit would be a smart combo.

I'm allergic to catchy slogans and marketing buzzwords... Plus, there's a reason why I would rather keep my cards separate.
