Coil whine... due to mouse?

Is this even possible? It's a Logitech G500 wired USB mouse. With it connected, I get an annoying high pitched coil whine coming from my PC whenever I'm NOT moving the mouse. The sound goes away whenever I move the mouse on the screen. I can't really tell exactly where its coming from... either the PSU or motherboard, but definitely not from the mouse.

I now have a G9 USB mouse connected without experiencing any issues. I'll try to RMA the G500, maybe it's defective.

It might be rf noise radiated back through the cable. An easy way to check is using a screwdriver. Wrap the cord around the metal part of the screwdriver about 4 times nearest the usb plug as possible and plug in the usb cable. If the noise goes away then that is the problem and the mouse might have been shipped without the choke in place that should block that noise.

I have the same mouse and read it its review about the problem, fortunately I did not face that problem.

Good to know Modelworks, thanks for the info, will keep in mind if I ever have the problem, thanks
