It seems that most people on this forum love Scotch. What about the other brown spirit, Cognac? Do you guys drink it once in a while to switch it up? If you do, which brand do you prefer?

Here are a few that I like:
Remy 1738
Courvoisier Exclusif
Martell VSOP
Martell Cordon Bleu

I like it ok, but when it comes to spending real money, I prefer to spend it on scotch. I have no preference. I only drink it when someone gives it to me.

I actually prefer high-end cognac to scotch, but it can get REAL expensive in a heartbeat, and virtually any "affordable" cognac isn't worth drinking. A couple good ones I've had:

Remy Martin Louis XIII (overpriced, but you've got to try it once in your life)
Hardy Noces D'Or (excellent stuff, tastes like it costs three times as much)
Hardy Noces de Perle (very good, but not really what I was expecting; a bit on the sweet side)
Hennessey Paradis (a lot better than I was expecting from the Hennessey marquee)
Martell Cordon Bleu (I didn't like it the first time I had it, but after trying a second bottle I was much more impressed with it... still can't hold a candle to the Noces D'Or, but it costs half as much)

Mind you, the cheapest bottle on that list is $100, and for that you can get the excellent Lagavulin 16-year-old scotch which I prefer to the cheapest cognac I've listed... so I think scotch is the better bargain of the quality spirits. But a really high-end cognac is truly an exceptional experience, and, in my mind, the absolute top of the liquor heap.

my problem is while i own several bottles of henn xo, martell xo, and one more xo dont remember the brand is that i feel i dont have the appreciation towards drinking it. on the other hand, i've drunk more than enough whiskeys/bourbons/scotch to have the right appreciation. i suppose i could buy some of the cheaper cognacs and grow to the right appreciation but i think that'll take awhile..

I drink both Cognac and Scotch. I dont drink too much currently so I can get away with Remy XO which is very nice. If I drink more often I get the VSOP from Remy or Hennessy.

Cognac is some great stuff!

I typically go on the cheaper side and sip on VSOP.. the better ones I've had are Hardy VSOP and Landy VSOP.
time to go raid the bar.. I am getting thirsty just talking about it..

I love Hennessy and apple juice. Sometimes I splurge a little and buy the VSOP (not really pricey, but near $50 usually). I'll drink it straight sometimes, but I like a little apple juice to lighten it up a bit... but that's just me.
