It is.
Z390 is a Cannonlake client platform along with the rest of the 300 series chipsets.
Z370 is an oddity causes by rushed out CFL-S launch.

The narrative I've heard is that Intel wasn't planning to release 6 core chips until 2018 originally. Ryzen basically made them hastily shove the z370 chipset out the door to get a response out, which is why it has absolutely no new features to speak of over z270. The narrative is they can't just create a 6 core project to release, it takes years. All they did was release what they had earlier which is why it has had some supply problems.

If that is true then Intel probably couldn't swirl a magic wand and release a 8 core mainstream next quarter if they wanted too. And frankly, I think they were planning on milking the new status quo core counts for at least a few years anyway.

What exactly is z390 suppose to bring to the table anyway then?

KBL-X has been in production for a while, and obviously CFL 6 core chips have also been in production for a while.

It's not even Q1 18 yet.

Doesn't WW stand for week number? If so then that chart is from the beginning of November. I'm confused by the rest of your post though. Yes, they have been in production for a while. The slide says that they are in production and launched. Where is the discrepancy?

As for 8 core, I'll believe it when I see more concrete information.

If the slide is correct with the mass launch of the rest of the CFL chips and chipsets in March then I'll be disappointed. I was really hoping for a January launch.

Makes perfect sense to me. I have been saying all along that the people expecting an 8 core Coffee Lake were engaged in wishful thinking based on one very tenuous forum rumor.

The same goes for the belief that Intel needs an 8 core CPU within a few months or they are DOOMED! (doomed I tells ya!).

Intel competes just fine with their 6 core CPUs, and even AMD process upgrade for Ryzen Desktop gives them a boost, it isn't likely to alter the landscape much, and only for a relatively short time.

Skylake-X was pushed up a bit, so Cascadelake-X release looks fine and should have a nice bump in perf/watt.

Yeah. Skylake-X was released in Q2 2017 and now we are almost through Q4 2017. So thats already 3 quarters gone and 3 more left before Cascade Lake-X appears. The timespan between Skylake-X and Cascade Lake-X is much shorter than between Haswell-E and Broadwell-E.

I don't know that type of road map well. But could there be an implied punctuation/break there?

With 95 W "K", 65 W, and 35 W TDP.
Using LGA.

Option B)
Coffee Lake-S.
6 core, 4 core, and 2 core chips at 95 W "K" TDP.
Also other chips at 65 W, and 35 W TDP.
Using LGA.

A 95 W overclockable 2-core chip would be quite a screamer in some limited uses. I could certainly use it when I am writing a quick simulation and don't want to put in the massive effort to add threads. But, I don't see it being a very commonly purchased option.

No idea if this will be the fastest CFL-U SKU (6MB L3 is an indicator for Core i5, so most likely not the fastest) but 2.3 Ghz is already a nice bump from the fastest KBL-R with 1.90 Ghz. Of course turbo speeds are more important, CFL-U with nominal 28W or 25W has a big advantage there. By the way the current Raven Ridge notebook reviews are based on test units configured at 25W according to AMD, so I have no doubt CFL-U 4C will beat this quite easy.
