I have a cheap maker right now that uses paper, but soon I will buy a quality maker with a gold mesh filter.

Those screen mesh filters don't filter as well as paper. I always have gritty coffee when I use the mesh filter (came with my coffee machine) so I threw it away and only use paper now.

I use the Mesh because I have a Melitta Mill & Brew. It grinds the beans in the filter....kinda neat because I can set it to grind the coffee and start brewing tomorrow morning just as I'm getting here.

Yeah, I've used both, but have never cared for the coffee produced by those perma-filters.

I use a filter basket that sits in the portafilter of of my espresso machine (it's the black handled thing pointing outward), and I just clean it after use.

ive found that the mesh ones i use seem to work very well.

The mesh has a larger pore size than the paper, so you have to use coarser grounds. The advantage of mesh is you don't get a paper taste in your coffee (I've never noticed it).

Not a fan of drip brewers, I have never been able to get the full flavour of the coffee out of one, even using good quality coffees. You need water under pressure to get the flavour out.

At work I have one of these

It brews the coffe very well, I like my coffee STRONG, and it did not cost as much as a quality espresso machine. Put in some European blend No.3 or East Timor Organic and I am in coffee heaven.

Only thing is, now when I buy a cup of coffee, 90% of places I am dissapointed, I have better coffee at work....

I use the disposable ones for multiple pots of coffee, so i chose the disposable option, but i really do multi use filters. Came from having a roommate who loved coffee but did not buy filters and it was a race to who would make their coffee first in the morning. I just add more grinds to the current grinds and add as much water as required for the grinds i add. Makes a really good cup, but i also use really good coffee.

French press for me, so I suppose metal/mesh. Makes the Sumatra Organic and Papua New Guinea oh so tasty.

I've been thinking about getting a moka pot for a little while. Sounds like a good plan

i just use the drip with paper now. occasionally use french press when i use different beans or whatever. paper filters out the artery hardening agent... and murkiness. does get rid of some of flavour oils though. oh well
