coffee maker choices?

Keurig makes brown colored water. It is awful. Horribly wasteful if you use the pre-made cups.

I just use a cheap drip machine, put about "6 cups" water in and I get 2 of my cups of coffee out of it. Taste fine and honestly it is hardly more work than a Keurig. French press is a good option also.

I find a good majority of pods = nasty water. Though decent to good pods exist. Dark roasts are my fav and starbuck's is surprisingly not awful for the price/performance ratio. of course much better exists, I just can't justify spending more when I drink mutliple cups a day. I love deathwish coffee company's pods but too expensive. Also the water/coffee ratio is really important. I usually keep 6 ounces to one pod, my wife's closer to 8 to even 10, that point it's dirty water, cream, and sugar

I'm looking at single-serve coffee makers, and I thought this one looked good:

Keurig K-Classic.

Also one from Mueller:

Any other ideas?(I'm serious about buying a coffeemaker...)
I would love an Espresso machine, just for the high caffeine content.
But all in all we use a Ninja 12 cup, works well, tastes good. I like Columbian coffee tho on the regular, need about 4-6 cups to fill my travel mug in the morning though, so espresso probably wont cut it.....

Dark coffee has a bolder flavor and less caffeine. The flavor of light coffee tends to be more "clear" imo. My personal preference is French roast which is medium dark. Lots of roastiness, without the burnt flavor some very dark coffees have.

edit:
Imo, with dark coffees you taste the roast, while light coffees you taste the coffee.

just ordered a 12 pack to try. SF Bay is another compostible k cup, but they come in like 80-120 packs. hate to buy so many and not like it.

The Boyd ones are actually completely compostable while the SF bay ones are only partially. I also like the boyds better in general. I bring my own to work just because it's that much better than the standard Petes or Starbucks ones.

French press + burr grinder?
  1. Much cheaper
  2. Takes up much less space
  3. Tastes better
  4. Uses fewer plastics that end up in a landfill

edit - fun fact. Every single K-cup ever made still exists somewhere on the planet. Just because we throw them away doesn't mean they actually go away.
You can even find your favorite pre-ground coffee if you want to skip the burr grinder part. It just allows you to adjust the grind, which can help in a French press. Some press screens are less fine than others and particular coffees like Seattle's Best and Lavazza both are pretty fine. They really do better in a paper filter. I like the French press grind to be just a little more coarse than those, but really like Lavazza Classico.

I suggest adding an electric kettle to this. They can be had for $15-30 on Amazon and heat water super-fast to quickly brew in the French press. I have a French Press and electric kettle in my office....I'm sure it's covered in dust by now because I've not been in the office since March....but I'll give it a good cleaning when I decide to go back and it'll be ready.
