Coffee drinkers, help my GF, Keurig alternative?

For Keurig owners, how quite are the machines? I got a Senseo quite a few years back to use at work at my desk and the damn thing sounded like my lawnmower when it brewed a cup. Was unable to use it at work because of the noise.

Nowhere near that loud. I wouldn't call it loud at all.

Very subtle buzzing from the water pump, then some drip noises.

We have a Keurig that my wife uses daily and loves. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I don't use it very often. She orders K-Cups off of Amazon which saves a few bucks.

ok so the patent ran out.. but i have yet to see the prices really come down or any other competitors release their own versions..

Do what I do - use a 5 cup coffee maker, KMart sells lots of them. Pour out your one cup and then dump the rest down the drain.

After getting some good local coffee at work, I started disliking the coffee out my Keurig more and more. I've recently purchased a decent burr grinder and messed around with a few ways to make coffee. My favorite is turning out to the be the Chemex which is what all the coffee hipsters of the internet seem to like.

GF's reasoning is that K-cups are sealed and only opened per use = therefore fresh.

If you buy a bag of beans and open it. And don't use it for few weeks (no matter how much you close it afterwards), they noticeably go stale, don't taste as good.

Is that true? That's her speculation, and I doubt it. What do you think?

Close bag with chip-clip.
Seal in freezer ZipLock bag.
Stick in freezer.
Fresh.

re-sealable bags and/or put leftovers in the fridge? or grind your own.

You all are funny. Just because you have a 10-cup drip machine doesn't mean you can only brew 10 cups at a time. I brew about 3 cups every morning for my wife before leaving for work. When I get to work my coworker and I brew about 7 cups for ourselves.

Too late, i know, but i have to chime in here.

The Keurig sucks, utterly disgusting. I usually turn it down when when offered.

The Nespresso is delicious and worth every $.

This.

Once you start drinking really good coffee, handmade, one cup at a time... nothing less will do.

It's not about a culture or attitude, it's just getting to a point in your life where you can tell the difference between quality and the lack of it.

99% of that is fresh roasted beans. Getting a proper coffee extraction is easy, but just the act of using fresh roasted beans will improve taste 1000x.

Use a normal coffee maker and buy small quantities of grounds from the grocery store. If she has to brew 3+ cups and drink one... well what does it matter coffee grounds are cheap.

Yeah vietnamese people are like that 😉 Some people have a sip of CSD and are wired for hours...I can pound a few at 10 and be in bed by 12.

this is my morning coffee cup :whiste:
