Question Codename 'Mendocino'

Not so much Deja Vu as disappointment over the new AMD APU naming convention. It's atrocious and is going to dupe people into getting older APU's.

Eh, maybe. You have to look at the third number instead of the first one. In the 5xxx series of mobile CPUs, you already have Cezanne and Renoir mixed together so it's not like AMD really did worse.

Are AMD 5000 series or the upcoming Intel 13th gen more successful at not misleading customers towards Lucienne or Alder Lake silicon?

I don't like the naming scheme either, but for a very different reason: it reminds me of the very complicated scheme Intel cooked up for mobile 11th gen. Customer facing naming should be simple, not a Product Number. If you cannot pronounce it quickly and easily, it's not a good name, and not a good naming scheme. Intel reps learned this the hard way, on stage.
