Codec woes

is there any write-ups/programs on cleaning your system of most video codecs
I've seen one on afterdawn but it didnt help me
my problems: some players won't play files, player resizes movie to a diff resolution, image quality is horrendous.

i installed ffdshow but that was after all other codec installation

I know it can be a pain but if all else fails, do a clean install.

Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers -> Video Codecs -> double click -> Properties tab
Select a codec and click on Remove.
