codec packs

Any recommendations for a codec pack?

There seems to be dozens of "highly recommended" packs like FFDshow, K-Lite, etc etc.

I'd be looking to have the popular codecs (including for .flv). Since there's loads of these codecs, many of which seem a bit dubious, the only codec's I wouldn't mind having to install seperately are divx and xvid.

I use the full K-Lite codec pack personally. The Windows Media Player Classic plays all of the random video formats I throw at it with ease.

VLC - that way you don't even need a codec pack because it plays everything.
