Anyway, the letters have to do with a music scale...a a-sharp b...etc.
The numbers refer to the the letter x notes up the scale. I guess that's the best way to explain it.

Basically, write out a row of all the chords in increasing order. The top line of the code is e.....3...5, so find the E and write down the note that appears 3 and 5 spaces to the right. Do the same thing with the A and D. You should get 5 letters.

It's hard to explain, but you have to rearrange the tab first before you can convert the notes (I said chords earlier - I was wrong).
