I just finished the SP campaign. Without a doubt the best COD game to date, and the best FPS in quite some time, and what a storyline! I really enjoyed it. Totally sucked that the USMC mission did not end on a happy note but it really made me understand the gravity of the situation and appreciated the game even more for that.

Also the SAS campaign, did anyone else catch the "news briefing" at the end? "Russia performed missile tests today that were within UN standards". Hah, that was great! It really makes you wonder exactly how much stuff goes on that the rest of the world has no idea about.

I know quite a few people think the game was short but I think it was just enough to keep me drooling for more. Hopefully we will see a strong mod kit come out for this game to further develop the MP/SP.

Yep, best single player I've played in awhile. At first I felt a bit jipped since it was so short and the multiplayer didn't seem that amazing. After playing MP more on hardcore servers though, it's completely worth my money.

I personally loved the end of the USMC story.

Not how it turned out, but the way they executed the end. It was amazing. Really put you as the character. From now on, I'm staying away from nukes!

On the Ghillied up mission, it's fun to shoot all the guys in the field and win :) But yes, this is one of the most fun single player games I've played in a really long time.

without a doubt, the best fucking game of 2007.

the depth and storyline made it amazing. you die twice but its all good! made it feel more real.

you know how it said "Russia performed nuclear tests..."? reminded me of NORTH KOREA!!

I loved the single player when i played it on my ps3 but i didn't like the multiplayer. What is this hardcore gametype your talking about? I might pick it up for the pc since my buddy keeps on bothering me about it.

Yep, this is the only game this year I've bought (besides Guild Wars, which I just ordered off Amazon for $10), and it's totally worth it. I just wish I hadn't played the campaign for free before buying - it was totally worth the money! Anyhow, the MP might be worth $50 on its own. I'm having so much fun killing people with my double-tap mini-uzi.

And you didn't die twice, only once, right? Soap gets picked up by the good Russians.

Oh, hardcore is awesome. It's ranked MP with the same modes, but you have no real HUD (no ammo counter, radar, crosshair) except for the round's timers and radar when UAV is used. You also die much more easily (and, in turn, kill easier). You really have to use the UAV and your special grenades and surprise people.

Yes is was god awful short.

But in that shortness it was a real great game. Had great variety in the gameplay with gunship's, search and seizure, search and destroy, search and rescue, sniper, sub-missions and tasks, and immersive front line battles. One of the really good points is that the vehicle sim parts of the game are short and to the point unlike lets say....HL2. Where you're on a boat for 30 minutes going through a "corn maze".

All the weapons served and had their purpose.

Visuals had me in shock. Was not expecting such a polished game. From the leaves blowing into the grey sky to the snipers camo crawling on the ground. The out door environments were the best I've seen since...since...maybe some RPG game I've never played.

Another odd little thing about the game - anytime I have a problem with it starting (and this happens a lot), restarting my computer fixes it. Error with DirectX? Restart. Randomly quits back to desktop? Restart.

Did Price die in the end? It wasn't very clear..IIRC, the Russian medic was trying to revive him?

If you're an optimist, I suppose there's a chance he's not dead. But I took the ending to mean he was, for sure...

The level when you were in the empty city struck by the radiation. Best level design I had seen in any game ever. The little touches like the empty swings, empty common rooms where you could see signs that people lived here, the pool.. all awesome.

i just finished it.
while it was cool, there were lots of retarded parts, mostly dealing with gameplay though.

infinite enemy spawning, tons of bullets and grenades flying eveywhere. so friggin hard to do anything in some spots. i think that really took away from the experience. i odn't think i've ever died so much in a video game.

there were a couple frustratingly difficult parts, largely because friendly AI was inept

There weren't any infinite spawns, I don't think. There were just a ridiculous amount of enemies ready to run out and replace that guy you just killed. If you're having trouble, just keep killing guys and they'll eventually thin out. I thought the TV station had infinite spawns, but I just kept shooting the bastards and eventually the shooting died down.

the TV station and waiting for the helicopter scenes were a bit too hard

Yeah I had this problem too. I must of clicked the launch icon about 30x over to get it to laucnh.

I think we can thank our friends over at securom for this. Getting the .exe replaced with a no-cd crack version will likely fix the issue.

i finished it and thought it was great but like others said, far too short. It left me wanting more! Maybe thats how I am supposed to feel after playing a terrific game. I havent felt this in a long time.

Amazing game, best FPS in a LONG time.

What was so amazing about it was that it felt like you were watching a movie, well, controlling the movie as well so to speak.

The musical score was excellent and the game just captures you from the start.

Like at the end on the bridge when ... forgot his name, the guy you had to save, started with a G i think, anyway, he's pulling you to safety and you see him try to cover for you and he gets nailed himself. Then Cpt Price on your left is wounded and you see the main russian bad guy come out and Price tosses you the pistol -- That is movie stuff right there!

Typically not a big fan of the linear hold-your-hand and guide you style of gameplay in this game, but it worked pretty well for CoD4. I guess more games will probably continue in this fashion as more of an interactive movie rather than open-ended adventures.

I really enjoyed some of the fights that some in this thread thought were too hard. Another thing was this game really made me actively search out sniper rifles and ammo and enjoy sniping more than any other game I've played. I typically don't like sniping in most FPS, but CoD4 combined lots of action, lots of enemies, lots of sniping without that claustrophobic feeling you're getting boxed in.
