CoD4 server browser

hi all.

when playing cod4, the server browser intermittently lags like crazy. it's happening more frequently now. the master server takes forever to do anything, then only trickles out high ping servers. while this happens, the framerate lags horribly - moving the mouse is extremely choppy. otherwise, the game runs flawlessly.

master server bogs = not on my end
terrible pings + frame drops = sounds like me

i recently updated vid drivers to nvidia 178.24. previously, i was using 178.18(?) and it happened, but less often and not as bad. but why would it crap out on the game list of all things? thanks for any help.

asus p5nd with latest drivers
4gb ddr2-800
2x msi 9600gt oc
auzentech xmeridian
vista ultimate 64, all important updates
cod4 - all settings high, 1920x1080
pb updated manually

well, i uninstalled some nvidia firewall, and the game browser is flying now.

otoh, i've decided to quit cod4, because it's become extremely boring.

I get bored of it a lot, but keep going back. I don't know why.

The server browser has always worked fine for me. The BF2 server browser sucks, though.

BF2 server browser always sucked bad. It lagged, froze, and crashed but the game was too damn fun.
