CoD4 has sold close to 14 million units

The $60 PC price is old news. And they would have sold more if they were not still asking $50 for a new copy for the PS3/360. And $40 for the PC. I understand its still a highly played game, but with the sequel so close, its crazy asking that much for the game still.

As much as I would like to play it on PC, I've given up, as I grow tired of the hacks. It's so funny hearing myself say I would prefer it on consoles as I was a hardcore PC gamer up until last year. Between the PS, 360 and Wii, it would only get 5% of my gaming time, now it's 95% and 5% for PC. Haven't even bothered to turn on my gaming PC in the past 2-3 months.

It'll be on sale somewhere for $50 the first week for PC.

edit: and I sure hope so because I suck hardcore at FPS when usin "da sticks"

Same here. COD4 convinced me that console FPS games can actually be more enjoyable than their PC counterparts. Good luck convincing me of that before I played COD4.

I play UT3 and Company of Heroes on my PC. That's it. I have COD4 my PC and it's been collecting dust for almost 2 years now.

Console games can be hacked as well. I was on PS3 in a Team Deathmatch on Crash and there was a guy on my team flying around.

Im getting it, and all other FPS' I can on the PC. Sure there are hackers, as they're anywhere. Pick a few favorite servers, that keep them out, and you're all set. From my experience there are more annoying trash talkers on the consoles. And PC's get mods and total conversions. Plus, I dont like paying for maps that should be free, which consoles have to do. $10, two or three separate times adds up. But money isnt the issue, its the principle of it. That, and I still hate the friggin' controller for shooters. I have BF 1943 for my PS3, but as soon as its out on the PC, Im done with it. There are pros/cons to each setup, I just prefer the PC for shooters. For sports games, driving games, adventure games... pretty much anything else I like them on the console better, most of the time.

Yeah, old news. But, For the first time ever i'm refusing to buy this game because of the markup in price. Maybe if it comes down to $40 i'll get it then.

Its not as if they dont make enough money off the CoD franchise as it is.. but to be greedy fucks just wanting a few more dollars.. I wont buy it at all then.

PC GOTY version of Modern warfare is under $30 at GoGamer right now (48hr special), as is World at War.

Couple things here I don't agree with. One is that you say the hackers are everywhere. No they aren't very prevalent on consoles. Do they exist? Sure. But I've never seen one and I've played a lot of CoD4. Compare that to the computer shooters I've played and at least 25% of the games/servers I find have obvious hackers.

Second, paying for maps that should be free sucks... but consoles don't HAVE to do anything. You don't HAVE to pay for map packs. CoD4 only had one pack anyway, and one week they had a huge sale on it.

My biggest gripe about the console shooters right now is the inability to pick specific servers or even maps. You can pick the game type and that's it. You get a random map and if you don't like it, vote to skip or just drop from the game. TF2 on the 360 let you pick from a game list, so I know this is possible for the consoles to do.

Yeha, special. You walk into any B&M shop, and its $40 still. Even $30 is still crazy when MW2 is about to be out. They should be slashing prices on it, to promote the sales. Anyone who doesnt have it yet, isnt as inclined to buy it just before the second one comes out.

No, consoles dont have as many hackers. But if you think they arent in CoD games, check the other thread in this forum. But as I said, pick a few favorite servers, and its not that big of a problem. CS is the worst game, but I dont play it so its ok.

No, you dont have to pay for new maps. If you dont, when the server changes maps to one that you dont have, you're dropped. W@W has a map pack too, and L4D has a DLC that is about to come out, which is free for the PC, but $10 for the 360. Doesnt Gears of War 2 have a new DLC too? And GTA4? Anyways, paying when it should be free sucks.

Yes, the server thing is really, really annoying. I didnt know about it until I played BF1943, as I dont play FPS' on consoles, until it came out.

But as I said, its just an opinion. I enjoy many games on my consoles. I actually buy more for them, than the PC now. Just not FPS' if they're out on both. Mainly for kb+mouse support. Its a little easier to play with buddies on consoles though. Too bad I dont have many who play games. 🙁

Well, at least I've owned it since launch week for $12 (flea market; probably "fell off a truck"). 😉

The Gears 2 DLC is single player content + multiplayer maps. The new GTA4 DLC is a significant chunk of single player content (not sure about multiplayer maps). You could describe both with a term that has been used for decades in PC gaming - expansion pack. And PC gamers pay for expansion packs.

I don't know where people divide the line between what "should be" free and what shouldn't be, but it's not as if all add-on content has been free on PCs since the beginning of PC gaming.

Personally, I don't think it's right to imply that someone is doing something wrong by not giving their work away for free. And that's what you're doing when you say their work should be free.

Should be free, because it is on PC's. MS&Sony dont want them to be free, which is why they're charging.

CoD4 maps free on PC, not so on PS3/360. CoDW@W maps free on PC, not so on PS3/360. New DLC for L4D content free on PC, not on 360. Etc. It should be free, because the devs want it to be free. If they choose to charge for it, thats on them. But they dont.

eh, and why should they be slashing prices on cod4?

there is this little thing called supply and demand, and apparently at it's current price point, the demand is still great enough that they don't need to slash prices.

and why 'should' some DLC be free?

the entitlement some people have on here is ridiculous.

Cant you read? Obviously you dont care to. I just explained why. Because the devs want it to be free. MS&Sony are the ones charging for it. Maps/DLC are free for the PC in the games I listed, among others. I dont know how many more times I have to say this. Its not an entitlement, its what the devs want.

In many different types of products, when a new one comes out, the old one gets a price cut. Goes from cars to sneakers. I dont know the sales numbers on CoD4. It sure wouldnt hurt to get players who never played it, to get involved before the second one came out. As example: before Tribes Vengeance came out, they gave away Tribes 2 as a free download. Created a lot of hype and excitement. Some people who never played Tribes 2, did. And bought Vengeance. Still didnt sell well, sold better than it would have though.

But since you just like to try an argue with me, I guess Im not surprised.

And I dont know where they come up with the 14m number. This link shows 15m online players, in March. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03...illion-online-players/ 11m for Xbox, and 4m for PS3. Doesnt say how many PC players.

The reason why the "DLC" for CoD is free is because they're freaking MAP PACKS. The PC version of the game has user created maps, and there's pretty much no way people would buy maps just because they're from the developer when there are some damn good map designers that do it as a hobby.

I don't know about you guys, but I love free stuff, especially free game related stuff like maps...etc. Knowing that, I would tend to buy more games from that developer/publisher, ie: Valve on PC.

If I'm on the fence on buying a game, and I see it's a Valve game on PC, I can almost always be sure that new and free content will be coming out later. That's enough to push me to buy it. Take notice how long their games stay on the market and people still buy and play their games. 5 year old game? No problem, still lots of servers and players.

Free is good.

you have a link to your bolded statement, where the devs claim they wanted it to be free on xbox360 and ps3?

and 'because its free on the pc' is not a valid reason why you tihnk the devs want it free on ps3 and xbox360.

you keep comparing the PC market to the console market, i do not understand why. they are very different.

I don't think it even matters if they've said it, because they could be lying to deflect people's anger. There's lots of free content on the consoles, including map packs. In particular, Rainbow Six: Vegas's Black map pack was free from the beginning (after an initial screw-up that was fixed after a few days, and everyone got their points back). The Halo 3 Cold Storage map was also free from the beginning. So if MS and Sony are insisting that DLC/map packs be paid for, they're not being consistent.

Exactly. People expect maps to be free on the PC, because anyone can build maps.

Its common knowledge that MS and Sony are the ones charging for this map packs/DLC. Feel free to take 10 seconds to google about it.

Obviously they are different. Another user and I were talking about the differences between the two regarding first person shooters, and you two came into the conversation. Started ranting about I think I deserve free stuff, devs dont deserve to be paid, blah blah blah. Read up, before posting. Im done with this topic. Not getting into another trolling conversation again.
