Recently, I had to format my computer so everything was wiped clean from C Drive.

Today, I installed CoD4 because my cousin wanted to play it. After installing it, I patched it to 1.4 and everything worked fine. However, I tried patching it to 1.5 and this and this came up. So currently, I'm stuck at version 1.4.

Even though I'm stuck at 1.4, I decided to play single player and "Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart application shows up.

Help please. I really want to play it, but first I need to fix these two problems.

I had the exact same problems. I never did get 1.5 to install.
I occasionally get the CD error. It seems like a windows issue because when I get the error and go to my computer to "Explore" the disc, my drive doesn't show up.

That's odd, I've installed this game on 3 different machines I have here at home. They all have different hardware and OS (2 Win XP Pro SP2 and 1 Vista Home Prem) and I've never encountered the problems you have. This may be a dumb question but have you tried uninstalling the game and then reinstalling it?

My drive shows up in Windows. ATM, everything works but CoD.

I have tried uninstalling the game, then restarting, then using CCleaner, then reinstalling the game. Still get the same two problem.

I did some googling and it seems that some people have this problem as well. I read about many fixes like hold left Shift when inserting the disc, remove the virtual disc drive, etc. Would they even have any effect on the game? I mean it worked before so all should be well isn't it?

I got the single player to work as well.

I was playing it today, and I noticed that even though I have a 4 speaker setup, most of the sound was coming from my 2 front speakers. The 2 speakers beside me which are used as surround sound relatively soft. You can barely hear sound from the 2 surround speakers when I'm playing CoD 4. Is it suppose to be like that? All the other games that I play don't have this sound issue.
