just got the game and after setting it at 1280x1024 it laged like hell

what is the best setting for this game with one 6600gt?

oh yeah, i'd rather have higher resolution than eye candy

Maybe 1024x768 Medium settings. CoD2 is a beast, and the 6600GT is a budget card from 2 generations ago.

1280x1024... Everything medium, and maybe 2xAA. Prolly no AA would make it run quiker, but try it with both AA and no AA.

Not really, it'll look better in DX7 at 1280 with 4xAA than it will in DX9 at 800... plus he said he wanted it to look like crap :p

What are your other specs... cpu, memory, etc... you know these matter as well..
As for me I played on 1024x768 with 2xAA, some details on high level (like world reflection in water etc.) anyway, the resolution was pretty low, but with most eye candy on, and it ran great, I really liked it.
My settings are: A64 3000+@2100Mhz, 1GB of RAM, 6600GT@560/1100 all on stock cooling.

i'm pretty sure my vid card is the bottleneck but i have a A64 3400+, 1GB ram, 6600gt 543/1000

how many fps are you getting
i tried 1024x768 and all high textures avging around 16fps, i also had shadows on high and no aa, trilinear filtering

Run it under DirectX 7 and you should be able to run the game at 1280x960 or even 1600x1200. Otherwise you'll still be slideshowing at 640x480 under the DX9 path.

if you want it to look like crap
It looks surprisingly good plus you get a lot of extra speed to crank up the resolution, AA and AF.

Mostly normal mapping and water effects. I have a 7800GT and I run it under DX7 as well because it flies under 1920x1440 with 4xAA.

DX7 no normal and bumpmapping(creates higher res/more detailed textures), no shadows, no bloom(HDR effect)

I run CoD2 in DX7. It does take a significant image quality hit, but I can't stand aliasing. Plus, I'm more impressed by the games audio than video.

um on my x850 xt i play 10x7 with all extra and no aa or af. on big maps when i snipe in its hits like 40 frames...... i dont like it. so it depends what kind of player u are. if u snipe i need all the frames u can get .

on my x1800 xl it ran pretty good how ever.

COD2 certainly loves to eat and rape your graphics card :p

Even with my 7800GT's in SLI OC'd to 495/1330 it still chuged along with 4xAA/8xAF and some other eyecandy. But I can play with everthing max with 4xAA, (it's either the AF or TRAA that kills it).

For you, medium settings, MABY 2xAA , 1024x768

The graphics engine is at a fault right now with COD2 and the DX&-DX9 problems(there should be a fix when the patch comes out).Right now I play at 1024x768 with all eye candy at max and doesnt go below 40fps.(Normally around 60-80fps).I've also played at 1280x1024 but with smoke of and lowered AA to 2x with textures at low(with the exception of character text still at extra) doesnt go below 30 normally around 50-70fps.Just make sure you have the latest drivers and play at DX7.

They designed it to be similar to the Quake engine...but hurried with DX9(because of the XBOX360 version coming out)...therefore they screwed up pretty bad...my friend runs two 7800GT in SLI and his fps sits around 60fps constantly dropping down to 40.

Hey, im playing it at 1600x1200 Extra Everything 4xAA and its playable. Im not complaining. I'm likely getting 20-35 fps, but it seems smooth to me.

it was playable to me 12x10, Dx9, low corpse, med settings, w/smoke...

all on my 6600non-GT 256mb, a64 3800x2@2.41 2gb ram

well until certain areas... especially the american part...

COD2 is not hard to change settings on the fly.

Hmm, I seem to be running COD2 at 1280x1024 at Highest Textures, DX9 (Medium/High shaders - not quite highest) and it runs fine. You sure you're not trying to run with AA enabled?
