COD/United Offensive BUGGY AS HELL

OK, I feel like I wasted my money. I bought COD War Chest. Loaded them all up and applied the latest patches. I'm running v.1.5 on COD/UO.

The issue is that after I meet the objectives, the mission doesn't advance. The guy I'm supposed to follow just stands there and does nothing. If I restart the level, I can often move on, but w/each new objective the same thing happens.

I'm stuck now, not far from the beginning of the game. You are runnign from foxhole to foxhole, then there are 3 German tanks you must kill w/the bazooka. I do that...and nothing. Objective completed. But yet the Sgt Moody guy just stands there. I tried running thru the field, but it's mined.

I am not experiencing any crashes/BSODs/funny stuff at all...it runs smoothly and beautifully, except the missions go nowhere. IS there a fix for this? :(

You need to set the game to run on one processor using affinity.

Interestingly enough I don't have any issues with dual-core unless I use a newer version of my motherboard BIOS.

I had no problems on single-core. Just ran to the expected position and waited for the cut-scene to kick in.

I'm not sure I'm having CPU affinity issues. I've had them before with another system and the problems were completely different; choppy and slow vs. the game jsut not doing what it's supposed to.

I had a AMD X2 system and DID have affinity issues; I had to manually set affinity in Task Manager to use only one core in most games. But I've had no problems with my Intel C2D rig. I am running the latest bios for my MB.

Maybe I'll reinstall the game and not apply any patches and see what happens.

I'm telling you that you are - the problems you describe are textbook.

Set the game to run on one core and your problems will be fixed.

Thanks, BFG10K; I'll check it out when I get home after work. :)

Now that I think about it...

Oblivion (as an example) is a new game. It was made after dual-core CPUs came out.
COD is an old game. It's code probably doesn't know what to do with a dual-core CPU.

Thanks much, BFG10K.

Heh, I'm still half asleep. I don't work today. :D So I tried it out and BINGO!!!

You were 100% correct, BFG10K. It runs like buttah now. :D Funny thing; my CPU usage on just one CPU is only 50%. Gotta love these new Mo'Powah! CPUs.

Setting CPU affinity was the cure. Many, many thanks; it wouldn't have thought to try that.

Interestingly your motherboard is similar to mine so you'll probably find if you roll back to F6 BIOS you won't need to set affinity.

I've found that upgrading to F7 or F8 from F6 causes affinity issues in Call of Duty and Serious Sam but F6 runs all games flawlessly.

I need to update my System Rig Page; I actually upgraded to the F10 bios a couple of weeks ago. It was an impulse thing...the system was running fine w/F7.

I can't say if moving from F7-->F10 caused the issue b/c I didn't have the game yet before I upgraded.
