Vote kicking never worked in BF2...try getting 64 players to press the damn up button :hmm:
Only an in-game admin, monitoring the chat and screen action, along with the latest hack signatures from Punk Buster can keep haxor fools out it seems.
Having cheats in an offline game can be awesome....nothing like a bit of "God Mode" for the kids or GFs to play with.
Cheating online however is the lamest thing around.
Fair play FTW.

If the cheating can be managed or adminstored, than PC online gaming is 100x better.

Clearly that's not the case with Call of Duty. MW2 is apparently full of cheaters and the fact that they use the completely ineffective VAC combined with no server admins means you can't do anything about it. I tried playing CoD 4 a month or two ago on PC and I couldn't find a normal server there either. I kept finding servers that were either empty or where you would die if you fell more than 2 inches.

Other games are better on the PC but the CoD series is practically unplayable online. The console versions are much better.

This is why I don't play online PC games.

PC for offline, console for online.

Not for me. Played with too many XXLegolaslolXX 12 year olds on XBox Live. Done with that forever. I have a much easier time playing on regular servers for my PC online gaming with adults near my age who don't scream into the mic.

XBox Live has way too much randomness to who you play with. It's much easier at least for me to control on the PC. Just play on the same server every time.

In fairness, VAC works. It's just not the correct tool to handle hackers in the short term. To handle those you need local admins and live detection. It was Infinity Ward's choice to not include either of those. VAC will get you eventually. But in the meantime, the damage is being done.

For games like TF2 - which also only uses VAC - abusive players usually get the boot. This generates a culture where the trouble of cheating is more than the benefit. And therefore there seems to be (to me at least) less people wanting to hack. The payoff to hacking in MW2, though, is instant and huge. The long term deterrence of possibly, eventually getting perma-banned is not enough to stop people from hacking.

Exactly. And I've played TF2 on the PC a lot. While I don't really like it that much, at least I can play it once in a while and not get too frustrated at hackers, because there aren't many of them at all.

I just wish other developers/publishers were as good as Valve about maintaining their communities. IW/Activision obviously does not care one bit. Still, the end result is the same - there's more cheating on PC than on consoles, so if I'm going to play a Call of Duty game, it'll be on a console. With other games, it depends.

I've logged about 7 days on MW2, have yet to experience a cheater. Not saying that they don't exist, but all I'm saying is some of yous probably got pwn3d so hard that you think they cheated.

I've logged in almost 9 days of playing time in MW2 multiplayer and I've probably ran across 6 legitimate aimbotters/hackers.

All this talk about hackers running rampant in MW2 is ridiculous. There are some very good players in the game and many people are quick to accuse someone of hacking just b/c that player simply dominates the game. Someone walking around with Ninja Pro, hears your footsteps, turns around and kills you may look like wall hacking during the killcam but is simply being a smart/better player.

Are there hackers in MW2 - Yes...is it any more than any other online game - NO.

That's weird, because in 4 hours of total MP time (yes 4 hours) I've encountered at least two aimbotters (if the killcam is to be trusted), and I was level 70, 10th prestige.

I played a lot of MW2 on the 360, but the PC version is an abomination of cheaters and hackers. I don't play it anymore, and instead I play Black Ops.

EDIT:

Doh, fooled by the necro. Damn new year, I still think it's 2010

The thing to watch out for in MW2 is rushing, be careful when you do that. I get smacked down hard when I try to play aggresive.

This is true of all the COD games (at least since Modern Warfare). It's a campers paradise. You just have to learn the maps and sit in a few spots. It' doesn't take long to learn where people are going to spawn from and where the relevant choke points are for that spawn. This, among other reasons is why I don't play these games at all. The last one I bought was World at War. It was fun for a while, until I realized it was the same gameplay as Modern War, just different maps/guns, so basically, it was a mod.

The same goes for MW2 and Black Ops. They're nothing more than mods of the earlier games.

I actually find it much more amazing that you've played 216 hours and have only come across 6 hackers.

Just to be clear are you playing on PC? There have been days where I'd play for 5-6 hours and I'd come across 6 legitimate aimbotters, but then again I play Ground War 99% of the time which is supposedly hacker central. Some days I'd get lucky and go an entire session for 4 hours in ground war without a hacker, and some days I'll get back to back hackers. My record so far has been 4 in a row.

You probably see less hackers in other game modes since there's not as many enemies to kill and these guys are just trying to rack up kills for prestige mode.

This.

Whenever I play I cannot go more than 2 or 3 matches before a hacker jumps in the game. I am talking about obvious hacking, like grabbing a sniper rifle and standing inside of a building shooting people in the head through walls.

I want to post this because I think people posting that there are not many cheaters are going to confuse people who may be thinking about purchasing the game.

DO NOT PURCHASE THE GAME.

There is an issue - and if you visit certain other forums you can read about it - where it is possible to get around being VAC banned in the game when cheating. This is the reason the number of cheaters have built up to such levels.

Also in any VAC game you can only expect that public hacks are going to get anyone banned. VAC doesn't do much. You can basically write a program and tell VAC to stop running.

love the thread. Hackers run rampant been playing COD for a while. Seen people skywalk, wall through entire maps and do triple headshots with a couple of pumps.

and btw pacsteam is the devil an enables people to hack like crazy, if there pacsteam account gets banned by vac they just make another. It sux there hackers and i agree for either a votekick or voteban.

The kill cam makes people paranoid, in MW2 the spawns were infinitely predictable after you learned the maps, you literally know where to expect the enemy is coming from 9 times out of 10 - provided you stay to the outside edges of the map and make your way around that way. Running through the middle = enjoy your respawn.

With that said, there definitely were hackers in MW2 back when I used to play. It's been probably 8 months since I logged in but regardless I still consider MW2 easily the best of the COD's and a great game overall.

People say they've only run across a few hackers, but how many people play on the ps3?

I've never run into a hacker on the 360 but literally yesterday I was on my friend's ps3 and 4/6 games had hackers. They even had popups that said buy hacks at such and such site.

Snipers that shot ac-130 bullets, wallhacks, shooting through walls, infinite care package glitch. auto-aim, infinite ammo, super jump. "Teleport everyone to me" command which was actually kinda hilarious.

Seems like hacked ps3's are abound now, if I'm correct in thinking that's what's needed to execute such hacks.
