Are you telling me that there is a hack out there that increases the range of weapons?

Maybe not increase the range but there are some hacks out there that change the ammo fired to the explosive rounds from the helicopters.

I usually just leave if I feel like somebody is hacking... unless they are on my team, then I just stay and leave the lobby when the current map is over; then I get my bonus points all win.

Does Votekick work well for any Game? Seems to me 95% of the time a Votkick accomplishes nothing but a flood of requests for people to Vote.

It would probably work better if they hadnt disabled it completely.

hehe, true. I'm just saying that Votebans really don't work well and are not really a solution. You really need an Administrator to handle this kind of thing.

EDIT: Didn't see so many replies before I headed out for lunch:

There really isn't much to discuss about the subject. If IW implemented a votekick feature, at the very LEAST this would REALLY help out..a great deal. i can live without dedicated servers, since it's 1 in 30 games you join that lag. Now if we had votekick, we could votekick the host and get a new host ..votekick would make the game better!

Agreed.

It is a discussion that can go on forever... many different camps of players:

-The hackers are all over in every game!
-I've played 5,000 hours and encountered 2 hackers.
-It's just a good player quit whining.

Bottom line... the hacking IS happening, they ARE in many games, and it frequency of encountering them IS growing....get the playing field evened out so clean ownage can ensue and everyone's happy.

VOTE/KICK needed.

IW could care less how much (if at all) you plan online. They have your money already.

Good Point. But eventually people start to vote with their wallet. Screw up bad enough, and you don't buy the next product offering. I know I sure won't if this doesn't get resolved.

This is precisely why I've been holding off on dropping 60 dollars on this game, or even 50. Sure, the "rush" would be cool at first, but cheating ruins nearly everything. Cheating at card/board games ruins those, too.

I sincerely hope this isn't the way online gaming is headed as a whole.
Its folks like yourself that will stop buying such game regularly and when the industry sees whats happening, they will come down on the cheaters.

In the meantime you will have to ride it out.

I was on one of those boycott MW2 groups until a friend literally begged me to get it and initially I loved it until the hackers just rolled in. I really wish I stood my ground because generally I will not pay more than the $49.99 and I rarely even pay that with the way Steam has been the last 6 months or so with the great deals being offered.

$59.99 is outright thievery. The COD titles always seem to stay retail priced forever. Still kicking myself in the ass for paying the asking price right now.

MW2 just passed $1 Billion dollars in sales, that's not bad for a 2 month old game

Cheaters will always be a part of PC gaming. Its just a side effect of the "open" PC system. There is no way you can prevent it. Just accept it, don't rage when you encounter it, and leave when you see it.

If you want to minimize cheating...close the system (i.e. PS3, XBOX)

I promise you there will be just as much aimbot/wallhack complaints in the PC version of Bad Company 2.

dedicated servers solve the problem of hackers because you can ban them. IW completely removed that ability with the matchmaking system and IWnet.

I would posit that there are a higher numbers of cheaters on MW2, doing this as a way to "send a message" to the devs. Sad.

Play Merc TDM, hackers are not a huge concern there.

And 30-1 in this game is NOTHING. I pull that quite often. All it takes is a defensive style of play (don't go running and gunning, stay behind teamates) and then a good Chopper Gunner spree. 30-1 is childs play.

Real hackers go 100 - 8...etc.

But even then I've seen a legit player get 100 kills in a match. He had Danger Close and Scavenger, he noob tubed everyone, picked up more ammo for the noob tube, and went buckwild with his two or three Chopper Gunner killstreaks.

But every pc shooter has hackers. Welcome to the world of pc gaming, this game is no worse than others. In Battlefield there's constantly people glitching into the geometry...etc.

i decided not to buy the game if they didn't fix a major issue (for me) from MW - lack of a region filter. they didn't (i'm on the xbox btw but the principle is the same) so i borrowed a friends MW2 disk, played the campaign and gave it back the next day. yeah, 5-6 hours of gameplay is worth that price? ummm, no!

i sold my copy of MW ages ago, and i won't buy their next game either. IW is on my avoid list after these 2 games.

When I ran a server for Counter-Strike, I had several anti-cheating mods installed. I had literally thousands of people banned from the server because certain files were detected on their systems. I think the main anti-cheat mod was called CSGuard and eventually it changed to HLGuard.

Having an open platform allows hackers to mod the game, but it also allows admins to mod the game. When we don't have dedicated servers, the cheating still exists but there are no server tools or admins to stop the hackers.

One thing is for certain - VAC sucks. It just flat-out doesn't work. I don't think PunkBuster was all that great either since I remember hearing about people modding their BF2 installation (removing fog of war...etc.) without any trouble. But VAC seemingly doesn nothing...

I just bought MW2 for Xbox (already have it for PC) and my scores aren't drastically better. Basically, on Xbox everyone's battling not only the other team but also the controller itself. The mouse + k/b is so vastly superior it's insane... Also, the visuals are terrible on 360 compared to a high end pc.

But what I like about Xbox is that it's an even playing field. Everyone's dealing with the same crappy controller and the same crappy graphics, wheras on PC you never know who's hacking or who's just playing well, and of course there's the issue of playing on the highest graphics settings is actually a disadvantage since there's more dust blown around in the wind and there's more grass making it harder to see enemies.

I am so disappointed. Been playing shooters since Wolfenstein 3D. I can hold my own, been in plenty of clans etc during the past 10+ years but in COD MW2 it's OUT OF CONTROL.

Take a look at youtube and there are tons of video clips of aimbotters, wallhacks, etc.

One sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FZ8wQuZ3ig

Any post in the Steam forums related to discussing how IW isn't addressing it is quickly closed. Sad thing is I love the shooter but this past weekend was so bad I just tossed in the towel.

Guy logs in the game gets 50+ kills in like 3 minutes NUKE. Spawning PWNED in chat. Time and time again seems there is a wallhacker almost in every game. All you have to do is watch the killcams.

So bummed out I really want to love this game and play it but just can't. I hope they fix the situation. I was hesitant about the no-dedicated servers thing but I guess I'm out $60.

I know someone that hacks, hes been banned four times. Obviously they are doing something about it.

I bet there are tons of cheaters that are just using subtle cheats... that you guys don't even know about. You may even watch that cam and be like, "oh that was a legit kill." When really they have mods. ALSO, I'm sure there are times when you watch the cam and are like, "OMFG!! he totally is a hacking Cheater!!!" When in fact he is just wasting 90% of his time on this game and has just become that good. The other 10% is internet porn and taking dumps. I have been called a cheater just with a lucky shot, shooting blind. For my 2 cents I would like to see cheating come to an end, if not... just minimized GREATLY. If for no other reason to remove the doubt. When a good player out plays me, its motivating to try harder. When someone cheats I just want to quit. I don't play games to quit; I play to have fun and get better.
