i'm playing SP and no hiccups playing offline.

how in the world do you bring up the console though???????
Yeah who knows? I know people were saying how good it was that Treyarch left the console unlocked, but I don't know how to use it. These days I have very little use for a console normally but I did want to use the cg_drawfps 1 to see just how low my FPS was! :)

ElMonoDelMar, I'm with you. You're CPU is a dual core like mine but I know the C2D are faster than the 939 Athlon X2 by a decent bit per MHz. I'm not sure how a 5700 is but I'm sure my 4870 is comparable. So like you, given that I could run MW2 as well as just about every other game fine at 1680x1050, I thought BO would be no different. But the performance is much worse in BO than other games.

Perhaps an AMD driver issue? I'm playing the game fine at maxxed settings 4xAA at 1920x1080. SP or MP, it runs as well or better than MW2.

The graphics themselves look worse than MW2 but I'm hideously biased against Treyarch and I'm still not sure why I bought this game considering that fact. :)

ok console only seems to work in multiplayer. for single player, i had to edit the config file manually.

I think this guy is probably correct about there being an error in the code that sends gfx processing to the CPU. Some people aren't having problems with it though it doesn't seem to be related to how new/old the hardware is. There are people with i7's posting with the same stuttering issues on SP.

that's because consoles rely heavily on CPU with their limited GPU and this seems to be more or less a console port with no PC specific (especially GPU) optimization.

sort of the same thing we experienced with BC2.

Core i7 920, 6gb, ati 5850.

haven't tried SP yet, but in MP I get smooth framerates but every 30 seconds though I get a stutter. It's far from unplayable though, in fact I'm having a blast.

There are literally millions of different configurations that would make it impossible to certify the game to run. People could easily take the game home, play it for a day or so, finish it, and then use an excuse of "It wouldn't run on my system". Back in ye old days - we could return PC games [and rent them too!] - but that came to a screeching halt.

It is pretty ridiculous that games these days are being shipped with obvious bugs though.

That would be fine a fine excuse if maybe 5-10% of players are having the issue, but from what I understand the majority of players are having issues. If you are able to play this game on PC than you are one of the lucky few. I cannot understand how that would pass QA...

Mine runs 100% smooth @ 5760x1080 with 4AA and highest texture. Both MP and SP. I do see other players frequently "pause" in a way, making it easy to kill em =p Guess I'm lucky not to have this problem.

Meh, what else can be expected from a dev that pumps out a game every 6 months?

I am am having the same problem. I have a lower end system with a 9800GT and an E4500. I know the CPU is at the bottom end of the requirements, but I ran MW1 and MW2 and world at war fine at close to max settings at 1440x900.

BO stutters badly at any settings I use. It must be a CPU or coding issue, because turning down the resolution or graphics options has little effect on performance. Really disappointed in this, because I am liking the game but am really annoyed by the incessant stuttering. I could deal with this if the graphics were outstanding, but it doesnt look any better (probably worse) than any of the modern warfare games which ran fine. The ultimate insult (uintended) was when my grandson who is 13 came downstairs from playing on an X-box attached to an old 15 in analog TV and said "what is the matter with the graphics, they look like crap"!!!

Wow! Just wow. This is shocking.

Thanks for the heads-up, I was going to buy this game but it was a little too expensive. SO GLAD I didn't now. Guess I'll stick to TF2 for another few weeks and see what the story is then.

Well, I played MP for a few hrs last night. Pretty awesome. It's really the same game as MW2 though. So if you liked MW2, you'll like this. I encountered a bit of lag but not too much at all, and even when lagging it was not unplayable. I also got beat down most of the night, but I really don't chalk that up to cheaters. I'm a middle of the packer 1:1 kill death ratio on a good server. But that was due to my noobness. I MVP'd by the end of the night.

As far as *everyone* having problems with the multi - I don't know about that. It's kind of like work; You do a hundred things right and no one says anything. That's your job. But you do one thing wrong or one thing to get your boss in trouble, then it's on....

This is the same thing. You are not going to get a ton of people coming in here saying the game is good. They are all out there playing it, lol. It's a good game. You are basically going to hear from the one's who are having problems, and are looking for solutions/feedback.

The SP is at least coherent. The multi is decent. It was a good $45 investment IMO.

I have a mid range system, e8400 @ 3.6Ghz, 8800GT OC. Played some Team deathmatch for about an hour at 1680x1050. I had no large pauses, it just was not exactly smooth.

For those that said they were not going to buy this because it was the same game for the Nth time...you were right. I own COD 4 and played MW2 for a few free weekends, this could have been either one of those.

I only sat through the first minute or so of the single player. THAT looked really well put together. Hollywood quality cinematics.

Single player seems okay, multi-player is a mess. I've never heard so many people complain about a game in my life. If launched through STEAM disabling Cloud and Community helps a little bit, but not much.
I skipped the last game because I didn't want to support the lack of dedicated servers etc. This edition makes me want my money back, great going Treyarch.

Where'd you get it for $45?

Single player has the occasional hiccup. Very playable, not so bad that I'm outraged by it or anything.

SP plays pretty decent for me. MP is a bit laggy but not horrible. I just can't get past the graphics. They just look cartoonish and a step or two back from W@W.

Can the laggyness be fixed in a patch? Maybe so but the graphics are something that will not change. :\

just about everyone i've asked while playing MP says they feel the lag/stutter. it seems to be worst when you're getting shot at in a 1v1 situation or even when you're aiming down the sights, just as you pull the trigger.

as for the people who keep on claiming that MP is smooth with no lag, i don't believe you.

Yeah, it seems to be happening to a certain subset of users, not everyone. It has been happening to me. I flipped on the in-game FPS and watched as I targeted people. There is no noticeable drop (constant 70 fps), which is what many others have reported too. My only guess is that it has to do with their network code, maybe bad interactions with a certain set of network cards because you can see the stuttering, but the framerate doesn't decline.

The other area it is noticeable is during kill cams, where the cam is completely lagged out and drops frames, despite the fact that the engine runs at constant FPS.... the only explanation I can think of is that the data that is coming to the rendering engine is already lagged out somehow.

Very strange.
