Having the same problem as these guys. Below are the symptoms to a T.
I'm hoping somebody here has had the same problem and knows the fix. I've tried 1.0-1.4 and all work perfectly, soon as I update to 1.5, death. The weird thing is the problem persists in all versions of CoD including United Offensive and CoD2...
I play a game online called Call of Duty. I've been playing it since it first came out. Recently I've upgraded computer, but I don't believe this has anything to do with the problems I'm having, and I think you'll agree once you look at my symptoms:
I'll start the game, and click "Refresh server list" to get a list of the gaming servers various people have. The refresh starts, and servers start to appear on my screen.
But as the list grows, randomly it will stop; sometimes I'll get a lot of servers, sometimes 2 or 3. It will still tell me it's getting a list of like 1000 servers, but none show up.
I'll click the "refresh server list" button again. This time, instead of telling me it's retrieving info on xxx servers, it will tell me that it's actually waiting for a response from the Master Server.
Should I click it again, it will tell me the list is being generated, but now no servers show up. From here on in, I click the "refresh server list" button, and these two outcomes literally alternate with each click. One click, retrieving info., the next, that its awaiting a response. Quite literally, no exaggeration, that is what is displayed to me.
Now, should I restart the app, and click the "refresh server list (I will now call this RSL to save time and characters)" button, it goes back to step one; some servers, but then it will stop. Let's say I try to join one of these servers that it shows to me. It will load the map, and the game is brought up.
Within seconds, literally within 2-5 seconds of a completed connection to one of these servers, I get a "connection interrupted" error blinking on my monitor. I can't do anything. Odd thing accompanying this though, is that while apparently I can't do anything, I can see people moving around the map from my stationary position (when they come into my view of course) and I can also hear their weapons fire (Call of Duty is a ww2 FPS game). I know from experience that any genuine connection interruption will freeze your monitor and your sounds, and should you actually be playing and maybe move your mouse, it will take several seconds for it to register in the game.
Now, here's the weird part about this: it never happened before..........and every once in a while, I can connect with no problem! Just today, I managed to play on a single server for over an hour. Not even a hint of lag. Trying to mimick my success later, and indeed in probably 80-90 percent of the time I try to play, I get what I have described above.
Another weird observation is that another, unsecured wireless network in range of my adaptor is visible in my view wireless connections. Should I connect to that network, and try to play through that, I can! Every single time! But I don't want to do that, because, well, it's not my network....lol and I haven't seen this network present for about a week (probably has something to do with our neighbors that moved).
-as a subpoint observation (I've had this problem for a while now), if I try to at first connect through my network, and it doesn't let me, then let's say I tried to connect through the other wireless network I mentioned, it will tell me my CD key for the game is in use! As if I'm still on or my computer is fooling itself! Or...something I don't know.
I have reinstalled my wireless adaptor, netgear wg111.
I have reinstalled the game several times.
I have even updated my graphics card drivers.
Of course, I didn't think that any of these would really help, I mean I can get online with no problem through firefox. And, the unsecured network that was there worked everytime, but I figured I would give it a shot.
I can ping my router, and connecting to my router, I can ping my comp back.
I set up portfowarding for both UDP and TCP on my router for the game.
There was even an option for an addition to the app's shortcut that went something like "net_port xxx" and that didn't work either.
p2p is fine.
signal strength is either excellent or very good.
I've disabled my firewall.
No access lists on my router.
