They make twist on connectors for TV coax cable. The connectors are threaded and you just twist them on over the cable after stripping it properly. Just make sure you fold the wire braid back over the outside plastic coating, because that provide the ground connection for the twist-on connectors. If you use the crimp-on connectors it is best if you use a crimper because the connectors will stay on better than if you were to use a pliers. As for telling what kind of cable you have look along the cable to see it there is any writing on it. Usually there will be some markings similar to RG6, RG59, Series 6, or Series 59. The difference between the 2 is the RG6 cable is thicker than the RG59 cable. Also, RG6 is always used for DSS installs and it is almost always used for cable TV.
