What type of coax cable are you using? If it is RG6 or 59 you can get packs of 10 at Radio Shack along with a crimper.

how do i tell what kind it is? i am just using standard tv cable that has the screw type connection on the end. what is the name of that?

so i need a crimper too just like a CAT5 cable? with the CAT5 i understand because it is 8 little wires, but this is just one big on, can you not just use pliers?

thanks

They make twist on connectors for TV coax cable. The connectors are threaded and you just twist them on over the cable after stripping it properly. Just make sure you fold the wire braid back over the outside plastic coating, because that provide the ground connection for the twist-on connectors. If you use the crimp-on connectors it is best if you use a crimper because the connectors will stay on better than if you were to use a pliers. As for telling what kind of cable you have look along the cable to see it there is any writing on it. Usually there will be some markings similar to RG6, RG59, Series 6, or Series 59. The difference between the 2 is the RG6 cable is thicker than the RG59 cable. Also, RG6 is always used for DSS installs and it is almost always used for cable TV.

Get a crimper, the twist on connectors are no good. Are you hooking up a TV or a cable modem?? Cable modem's are very sensitive to the type of cable and the connectors. R.

I haven't looked at the cable yet to see what number it has, but it should be the same kind of head right? Also, this is for a tv (well through a video card ;) not a cable modem.

another thing: i am looking for a splitter for about 8 connectors like

The type of connector depends on the type of cable, RJ-6, RJ-59 etc. If you are splitting a cable signal 8 ways you will need an amplifyer or two. Radio Shack and converse with them about what you need. Rick
