HI
I posted another question earlier about software to burn dvd's.
Another dumb question...
If I were to buy a new dvd player, do I have to buy the coax connecting cable?
The reason I ask is on my current dvd player I use the svhs for video and the optical output connected to my receiver for the audio.
I looked at a few dvd players on line and they just have the coax output for audio along with the analog audio outputs.
I looked a checked the manual for my receiver and it looks like it will accept the coax cable for the audio.
If I need the coax cable is there any decent places to buy on line?
Thanks

I'm confused.

What most people call coax is coaxial cable is used for very high frequency radio signals - usually you would use coax to come in from an antenna or cable TV or satellite.

For video, there's composite, s-video, component, and HDMI - in the order of quality from worst to best.

Composite is usually a yellow RCA connector for video:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video

S-Video is a 4 pin video connector and uses a mini-DIN connector. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video

Component video is a 3 wire connector that uses RCA plugs and normally has the connectors colored green, blue and red. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video

And HDMI is a lot of digital wires and looks like a D-shaped connector. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

When you say SVHS for video, I presume you mean s-video? And when you say coax, do you mean RCA? Or do you mean TOSLINK optical audio? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOSLINK

I don't mean to fill a full post with jargon - I'm no expert on any of this. Honestly, I'm just confused what you are talking about.

When I need to buy wiring, I usually buy from Big Lots here in town (cheap HDMI, component and composite cables), or online from monoprice.com and newegg.com.
