Good on them for standing up to the liar. Obama's campaign and the left can't be allowed to perpetuate their lies and misinformation campaign. They are standing up and saying NOBAMA to his war on coal.

http://www.nationalreview.com/planet-gore/330437/miners-accuse-team-obama-lying-ads-greg-pollowitz
The miners said Obama’s campaign team is running ads filled with “blatantly false” statements about the miners regarding their participation in Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s August campaign stop at the Century Mine. These ads assert that the miners were forced to attend the event by the mine’s owner, Robert Murray.

“There are numerous false statements and absolute lies concerning our participation in this event, mostly started by a local ‘shock jock’ radio host,” the miners’ letter to Obama states. “Why would you (Obama) lie about the 500 working miners who have signed this letter? We, the employees of the Century Mine would request you immediately stop these false ads.”

Only the right wing blogosphere seems to be running with this. Yawn.

If coal companies want to be mad at someone the people drilling for all that NG would be a better place to start.

Did the mine owner order the miners to sign or not?

By Obama's War on Coal™ I assume you are referring to the EPA finally implementing portions of the Clean Air Act after dragging its feet for 42 years and EPA losing court case after court case over the agency's steadfast refusal to follow the law?

Without some further information/investigation any speculation on a letter written in to a local paper and picked up partisan sources is questionable at a best.

As for campaign ad's its a cut above that Obama superPAC implying that Mitt Romney was responsible for the death of that steelworker's wife.

Maybe this is coming due to the pressure from CREW

Oct 09, 2012
CREW Files FEC Complaint Against Murray Energy Corporation and CEO Robert Murray
FEC Complaints, Legal, FEC Complaints, Press Releases, Political Candidates, Mitt Romney

Coal Miners Romney speechWashington, D.C. — Today, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against the Murray Energy Corporation, the Murray Energy Corporation PAC, and the company’s Chairman, President, and CEO Robert E. Murray, following a report that appeared in the October 4, 2012 issue of The New Republic. The complaint alleges Mr. Murray threatened employees with reprisals, including the loss of their jobs, to coerce them to make contributions to the company’s PAC.

Click here to read CREW’s complaint against Murray Energy.

Mr. Murray is a prominent Republican donor and, in August, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney used Mr. Murray’s Century Mine in Ohio as a backdrop while he attacked President Barack Obama as anti-coal. Coal-smudged miners who worked for Mr. Murray were forced to take time off from work without pay to stand behind Mr. Romney. Mr. Murray has also held fundraisers for Sens. Scott Brown (R-MA), Jim DeMint (R-SC), David Vitter (R-LA), Roger Wicker (R-MS), and Bob Corker (R-TN), among others.

CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan stated, “It is outrageous for a business owner to abuse his power to force his employees to support a political candidate. Whether coercing company executives to make campaign contributions or insisting coal miners take time off without pay so that a candidate can stage pretty pictures — it is all illegal.”

The complaint also alleges that the company reimbursed employees for contributions to the PAC by giving them monthly bonuses personally approved by Mr. Murray. Campaign finance law prohibits corporate PACs from using coercion to extort contributions from company employees and prohibits companies from using corporate funds to reimburse employees for contributions to a company PAC.

According to two individuals in management at Murray Energy as well as internal company documents, employees were under constant threat of losing their jobs if they failed to contribute to the company PAC.

“Candidates who claim to care so much about American workers should be quick to publicly condemn Murray’s conduct, but — surprise, surprise — they are keeping silent as long as the campaign contributions roll in,” Ms. Sloan said.

For someone that in an earlier thread bitched about Reason.com to post something from CREW just shows what a fucking useless hypocrite you are. Man, what a fucking loser.

Before becoming a prosecutor, Ms. Sloan served as Minority Counsel for the House Judiciary Committee, working on criminal justice issues for Ranking Member John Conyers (D-MI). Ms. Sloan also served as Counsel to the Crime Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by then-Representative Charles Schumer (D-NY). There, she drafted portions of the 1994 Crime Bill, including the Violence Against Women Act. In 1993, Ms. Sloan served as Nominations Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee, under then-Chairman Joseph Biden (D-DE).

Yeah, no partisan bullshit here. Fucking hypocrite.

That's the point, those allegations are pure bullshit. Nothing but lies.

Let's wait till it gets sorted out by an impartial party before issuing unsupported conclusions like this. Spidey I think you will be surprised at what the actual truth is.

So the workers saying "YOU LIE!", isn't enough?

No, ravings are not enough. And right-wing blogs reporting on alleged ravings are even worse.

Frankly, if spidey07 said the sun would rise in the east tomorrow, I'd wait until morning just to check for myself. I'd be hard-pressed to think of more than a handful of people around here who have less credibility.

Republics think that Obama is a secret muslim terrorist who wasn't born in America.

So no, the ravings of people are not enough.

Oh, the ravings of The People will be plenty enough come November.

2010 ring a bell? Historic elections of year 2010 and all that?

You mean the ones where you bet $500 that the Republicans would take both houses of Congress, and lost? Does your statement "Perry WILL be your next President" ring a bell?

As for the topic at hand, the jury is, without question, still out on what actually happened. I don't find it hard to believe that 500 coal miners who a) probably don't love the President to begin with, and b) feel it is in their best interest to protect the management of their mine, could be persuaded to sign a letter like this.

This thread is so full of pea brained (similar size), web based failure, I don't where to begin so here goes...

Quote from CFO Rob Moore of Murry Energy in a radio intervew
Murray Energy Chief Financial Officer Rob Moore told the radio station in an extended interview that the company shut down the mine because senior managers wanted to attend, and it could not remain open during a rally.

“We had managers that communicated [to employees] that the attendance was mandatory,” Moore said. “But no one was forced to attend the event.”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSDsUcNr3lo

So bosses close the plant which meant workers didn't get paid. I'm sure the miners were ok with this. Given a mandatory order to attend a Romney rally and this guy says "workers were not forced."?

Hey Peter Parker, are you fucking insane? Not only did these guys lose a day's pay they were ordered to attend (look up mandatory in the dictionary). Anyone knows disobeying a direct order would make these workers subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination. Guess that means their families have to go on unemployment/welfare and become one of the 47% you and Mitt loath. The only reason these miners may escape punishment is the story got out.

But you would rather stick up for some rich asshole who abuses his workers. Than again not surprised.

BTW - I formally apologize to the pea for comparing its size with your brain.

The miners weren't actually required to attend- let's just say that they knew better than not to. The parking lot is a secured area, with security watching over all the comings & goings. Naturally, they all stayed. And when the boss says they want 'em to sign a letter, they know better than to decline.

They live in what is basically a company town environment, a privilege Repubs want to grant to all working Americans, because then everybody will know better than to question the Boss at all.

There isn't one person here who would believe the Demon messiah would lie!

Are you really really sure you're not suffering from some degenerative brain disease or weird drug interactions?

Print out several of your recent contributions to this forum, take them to your doctor, ask him what he thinks, OK?

Exactly. As quoted above the company's CFO already admitted to making the employees an offer they couldn't safely refuse.

They then circulate an "open letter" against Obama for employees to sign. If you know your employer is keeping a list of who signed and who did not sign and you want to keep your job, how much choice do you have?

eco-KOOKS need to be removed from the public policy loop. Institutionalized hoax and a public policy based on lies and junk science is fraudulent and criminal.
